powerboy Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 While not completely new to burning, I feel like I'm in a new world lately. I've had great luck using Verbatim DVD+R DL media on my NEC. A few months ago I upgraded to a SATA samsung for it's faster DVD9 burning abilities. Soo I started making a LOT of coasters. Backing off on the speed to 4x didn't help so I figured I had a bad drive. I ordered another and had the same problem. Even at 2.4x over 50% of the disks would fail. Perhaps a bad batch of disks I thought, nope, I had the good Singapore disks. Those disks that I am able to burn seem per DVDInfo but I don't have an old 'good' disk to test. LIGHTNING UK! Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 Always burn at 4x in that drive. The 2.4x write strategy seems a bit dodgy... in fact, even 4x is a bit hit and miss (well, with my drive anyway). Hopefully the next firmware update will resolve these issues.

Good to know the SH-S203B has issues burning DL media. Right now the firmware on the drive is SB01 yet Samsung only has SB00 posted. I have a feeling I'll be waiting a long time!
