kgudge Posted January 26, 2008 Posted January 26, 2008 (edited) I have 20 or so Aone DL disks, my Lite-on and Pioneer drives won't burn them as DL media (Verbs on order). I tried burning 4.6 Gb to one and it wrote it across both layers (failed at 50% as usual). Is it possible to use these disks as single layer disks? If so how? DVDdriveinfo shows first layer burns have good rating around 98%. I was hoping to use them as single layers rather than throw them away. Edited January 26, 2008 by kgudge
LIGHTNING UK! Posted January 26, 2008 Posted January 26, 2008 If the image (and it must be an image - i.e. in Write mode) is small enough to fit on the first layer of the disc, it should prompt you and ask if you want to just write to the first layer.
kgudge Posted January 26, 2008 Author Posted January 26, 2008 (edited) Thanks for the prompt answers. Great program BTW. Edited January 26, 2008 by kgudge
blutach Posted January 27, 2008 Posted January 27, 2008 Remember that a single layer DVD (+R) is 2,295,104 sectors and each layer of a DL is just 2,086,912 (about 9% less than a DVD-5). That is most likely why it's trying to go to layer 1. If you wanna use those crappy disks, you'll need to shrink the files by 10%. Regards
kgudge Posted January 27, 2008 Author Posted January 27, 2008 Thanks team, wrote an image to an Aone DL this morning in single sided mode. Scanned with DVDinfoPro and rated as 99.15%. Thats higher than my usual TDK disks which avg around 98%. At least now they now won't go to waste.
spinningwheel Posted January 27, 2008 Posted January 27, 2008 Scanned with DVDinfoPro and rated as 99.15%. Thats higher than my usual TDK disks which avg around 98%. Have any that are 6-12 months old? Now they may scan good, in time they may degrade to the point that you will have no accessible data on them..... ...Place a blank in your drive, let IB read it and copy/paste the info from the right hand window here please.
kgudge Posted January 27, 2008 Author Posted January 27, 2008 NP here ya go........I only bought them last month and so far have only burn't 2 good DL's (when I say good they verified OK) DVDinfopro shows them as pretty poor when scanned. I even purchased a new Pioneer DVD drive to try to get them to work as DL media, no joy. Not read anything about long term stability issues with them, only DL burning issues and drive compatibility. spinningwheel Posted January 27, 2008 Posted January 27, 2008 Thanks for the reply.. One of the things that I wanted to see was this: Disc ID: RICOHJPN-D01-67 While they may work better for you now, I did a little research and fount these posts about the discs using the search button... HERE! I'd get rid of them and get some Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim DataLifePlus and not worry about my archived data and its' ability to retain its' integrity over time.
kgudge Posted January 27, 2008 Author Posted January 27, 2008 (Verbs on order). Already done for DL duties, Verbatim DL from Singapore via SVP.
