michaelb Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 I keep getting the Device Not ready ID CRC or ECC ERROR. I can shrink a dvd fine with dvd shrink but am unable to burn it w/ this program or with dvd decrypter and RecordNow! In the past i've burned many dvd's with no issue and all of a sudden it does not recognize the empty dvd's. I can still make a ISO file and watch dvd's. I've read the FAQ and previous posts and have tried various solutions but nothing works. I've bought better media(Taiyo Yuden-16x), uninstalled driver than rebooted, uninstalled IMGburn and reinstall. Played around w/ settings. I have also tried to find an updated driver but have been unsuccesfull in installing it. I have a Matshita DVD-RAM UJ-831S 1.40 (ATA) This is the link to a updated driver but as mentioned I cannot install it, I keep getting an error mssg. http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1986 I have a Toshiba Sattelite M-45 laptop w/ expired warranty. I 01:29:48 ImgBurn Version 2.4.0.0 started! I 01:29:48 Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600 : Service Pack 2) I 01:29:48 Total Physical Memory: 515,500 KB - Available: 138,092 KB I 01:29:49 Initialising SPTI... I 01:29:49 Searching for SCSI / ATAPI devices... I 01:29:50 Found 1 DVD±RW/RAM! Please help!
LIGHTNING UK! Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 If you haven't already tried cleaning the drive, do that. Otherwise it's probably just faulty. See if you can get a replacement or buy an external one.

michaelb Posted February 26, 2008 Author Posted February 26, 2008 What is the best way to clean the drive? disc cleaner or airspray can? Any preference in brand?
LIGHTNING UK! Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 Yeah one of those cleaning discs will do. They normally have a brush or two on them that runs over the laser when you play a certain track. Something like white spirit on a cotton wool dumbbell thingy might work too - assuming you're careful! Just wipe it over the laser and then dry it with the other end.
AceH Posted March 30, 2008 Posted March 30, 2008 I just started having the same problem "Device Not ready ID CRC or ECC ERROR". I too have the Toshiba Satellite M45 laptop. Was this issue resolved by a cleaning disc?

Was this issue resolved by a cleaning disc? I purchased a DVD/CD cleaner (disc type with brushes on it) and that took care of my problem so far.
