AJeun23
Ok so Ive been checkin out the forums lately for some answers to my problem, and the error that I get appears to be common, that its a bad disc. I just wanna make sure that this is the case for me, cause Ive used this brand of disc forever, and its only been recent that Ive had this issue, maybe I have a bad batch or whatnot. Most of them get the error very early in the recording, around 2% actually. Secondly, if it is a crap disc, can anybody have any recommendations for really good/reliable/durable dual layer DVD's. LIGHTNING UK!
You know the brand name means nothing yeah? It's the dye that the discs use that's important. In your case, it's RITEK-S04-66. We only ever recommend 1 type of DL disc on this forum as it's proven itself to work when other discs fail. That is, Verbatim DVD+R DL 2.4x (MKM-001-00). The ones made in Singapore are believed to be the best. Don't forget to check the LG site for firmware updates every now and then.
volvofl10
your right with what your thinking. It is most likely the discs your using. Try using Verbatim (made in singapore) 2.4x, these seem to be the most stable dual layer discs on the market right now, which is why we always recomend them you could try reducing the speed with the ritek ones you have to 2.4x , but chances are they will still fail. AJeun23
Ok so this time I got a different I/O Error. The only question I really have is: is this also a disc error, or something else? LIGHTNING UK!
They're all disc errors! I/O errors are to do with the drive/firmware/media, they're not program related (99.9% of the time).
dontasciime
That dye is funny to write to, maybe try 8x then all you can do is to keep checking for firmware updates or checkout out ala42's MCSE as you can crossflash that drive to H55L in next release. However you will probably have to remove drive from enclosure and install to PC to flash as from what I read the enclosure chipset does not play nice with firmware update which is common I could not flash my LG H55L to latest firmware whilst in enclosure that uses PL-3507 chipset. I had to connect mine to another usb > ide device to flash.
