alexh Posted March 13, 2008 Author Posted March 13, 2008 Thank you. I'm updating now, but my piece of **** burner won't even open now, so I think I'll go to the hardware page and see what the best burner for me to to buy would be.
alexh Posted March 13, 2008 Author Posted March 13, 2008 Got it to open, updated it to A117, and now... the medium doesn't work. I guess I should get the Singapore verbatim ones instead of the cheap Dynex discs? LOCOENG Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 As mmalves suggested, either try some Verbatim MIS media or get a new burner.
alexh Posted March 13, 2008 Author Posted March 13, 2008 The Verbatim DVD+R DL discs at my local Best Buy (where I am going today so I can return the Dynex discs) are up to 8x instead of 2.4x. I can still burn at 2.4x, correct? If it is bad for burning an ISO file, what's the fastest way to get some 2.4x discs? Wal-Mart only has the 8x discs as well, and I'm hesitant to order off the internet because I'm not sure how to check if they're from Singapore (I heard on another site that if not from Singapore the quality of these discs is greatly reduced).
LIGHTNING UK! Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 The dye is different between the 2.4x ones and the 8x ones. You might find that drives prefer the 2.4x ones - after all, they've been around a lot longer! As for buying ones from Singapore on the internet, I would suggest you contact the company and ask them directly.

mmalves Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 Your burner doesn't support those blanks (that's why it shows those weird values for Supported Write Speeds). If you can't get Verbatim 2.4x MKM-001-00 blanks then you'll need a new burner
alexh Posted March 13, 2008 Author Posted March 13, 2008 Huzzah! It works with a Memorex DVD+R DL 2.4x! (the verbatim 2.4x was 50 dollars and they didn't have a 3-pack)!! Thank you guys so much for all your help... *sniff*...
dontasciime Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 It's good that it's working for you now, as long as you know the Memorex ones can have a hit and miss ratio.
LIGHTNING UK! Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 I guess those memorex disc must use the Ritek or CMC dye... it would be weird if it was still Ricoh!
alexh Posted March 16, 2008 Author Posted March 16, 2008 It's good that it's working for you now, as long as you know the Memorex ones can have a hit and miss ratio. Luckily it worked the first time, because I doubt that I'll need a dual-layer disc anytime soon. If they start making a lot of wii games that are DL, I will just buy the Verbatim pack that's larger.
