LIGHTNING UK! Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 If it won't initialise the discs and you've tried some from different spindles (or even ones you've already burnt), the drive has probably gone south.

Ugh, I'm afraid you may be right. I just tried opening an already burnt DL movie in explorer and windows media player and no luck with either of those. It still reads DVD+R single layers and writes them fine too, however. I find that fact odd. Do you really think it's time to get a new one or is there a way to salvage my less than 6 month old burner?
dontasciime Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 Try flashing the drive again. Can you remember when you flashed it, did it stick at 10% >? Cannot remember if you can flash back to 103 with just lg firmware, you can with MCSE. Maybe try the older 1.03 firmware and reboot after upgrading firmware, make sure try is closed with no disc in drive.

The last time I flashed it (1.03 to 1.05), it didn't stick but went flawlessly from what I could tell. What is MCSE? Maybe this would help me? I tried going back to 1.03, then again to 1.05 but had no luck with either. Is there perhaps some type of drive diagnostic tool that I could download somewhere? I'm really desperate as I'm sure you can tell because it's doubtful I can get my money back for this drive.

Nick King Posted April 2, 2008 Posted April 2, 2008 I am getting the same error... I can't get any disc to read.. it says the exact same thing as his. My drive still works fine though,.. every CD i put in works fine on other burners.
Nick King Posted April 2, 2008 Posted April 2, 2008 I have the exact same problem as him,... no matter what DVD-R it keeps saying Medium not Present. And i know my drive is still kicking becuase i can burn with other programs and read those discs fine.

Nick King Posted April 2, 2008 Posted April 2, 2008 If that is true,... then why does it not work on both my computers? I know for a fact that the other computer has a DVD burner. And it still gives me the same error as this.
LIGHTNING UK! Posted April 2, 2008 Posted April 2, 2008 The 'Medium Not Present' message is what the drive is reporting to the program. So either you don't have a disc in the drive or the drive doesn't support the disc.
Nick King Posted April 2, 2008 Posted April 2, 2008 It has always burnt to it before with media player or... SONIC easy burn for music. I don't see why it wouldn't read in this. Alright.. i'll try the spare DVD burner in my computer closet and try it one more time.
