Hey guys,

Ive been searching the forums and have found a few threads with similar problems burning dual layer dvds. But the advice within these threads, didnt seem to help. I have already wasted 4DL DVDs trying to burn brawl.

I tried playing around with the book type and the max automatic speed and when i do that I get power calibration errors. I use verbatim+R DL. Ive tried burning at 1x, 2.4x, 4x. Im trying burning at 8x as i type this. Il let you know if anything happens. I get write error all the time. But then again this is the first time ive ever tried burning DL's.

Try getting Verbatim DVD+R DL 2.4x MKM-001-00 Made in Singapore blanks, since they seem to have better support than the Verbatim 8x MKM-003-00 ones.

I see you're using Dee's 1.O4 firmware on that burner, and according to the overview of writing strategies, that firmware doesn't use the latest strategies available for DVD+R DL. If you can, try the Liggy's AD-7170A Bitsetting Firmware 1.04.

thanx for the help guys.

I just updated to liggy's bitsetting firmware. I am gonna give it a go now. As for the verbatim 2.4x, I guess I can buy those. is the dye important for thr writing procces?

Combination of dye/firmware/writer/speed/cabling/DMA etc etc.

I updated the firmware, then tried to burn again.

I got: "Failed to set L0 zone data capacity.

Reason: power calibration area error."

Is the dye the cause of this problem?

More than likely - or the burner.

You can try to turn OPC off in the settings.

Thank you for that information cynthia. That really helped :)

Now it actually began burning. It reached 50% and gave me an error. Here is the log.

Well, since you've done everything to get a good burn, you can either suspect the cables or the drive itself.

I have a similar issue, so I won't start another thread as the advices might help both of us.

I have been using the following drive for over a year for DL burn w/ no problems. I bought a new batch of media of the same media type (number matches), and the DL burn would fail the first attempt at the second layer after a power on. However, when I retry a 2nd time the burn would work without changing any configuration. This was repeatable several times.

Having tired of wasting a DL disc per DVD image, I decided to try the following -- burn 1st image twice (as the first burn is always a coaster, the 2nd burn is successful), then burn a 3rd DL disc for the 2nd image, which proved to be successful as well. This shows that a failed burn is required for power calibration.

At first I thought this might has been a media issue, but now I don't think so. I looked at the logfile for anything that might differ between burn 1 & 2, but I didn't see anything different. I have pasted the log below. Any suggestions? Thanks.

-- initial burn, always a failure --

Do as we recommend and get some Verbatim, +R, 2.4x, MKM-001-00, Made in Singapore. They actually work.

And no matter what you think about it not being media related, untill you get some decent media instead of Ricoh rubbish you will see a hit and miss effect with your current choice in media, thats what they do.

Hey, I have the same problem and when reading around in the forums, there are many others also with the same issue, i.e. burning DVD DL (xbox360) and getting i/o error, write error or whatever, in the middle of the burn! I have still not seen any good solution for it though. Some say it works after reinstallation of Windows, some say try to change to PIO-mode, some say you should switch to CloneCD and/or ImgBurn (same issue for me) or change DVD media (I use: Disc ID: MKM-001-00, Book Type: DVD+R DL). This drives me crazy, gaaaaah! :pirate: For me, it sometimes works, perhaps once out of three, but damn it'll be expensive in the long run, right?

Right now I'm reading that one guy removed his nForce2 ATA drivers, could that have something to do with it (because I have a nForce2 400 motherboard)?

ANy help or suggestions'd be greatly appriciated.

Post a log from one of such burns (you can find it at Help/ImgBurn Logs) so that we can see what's happening :)
