burned mp3's show up "empty"

Hi,

Is there some kind of mp3 protection scheme I'm not aware of? Or is there certain mp3s that can't be handled by ImgBurn?

Problem: I get only silence when I play cds burnt from certain mp3s (both on my computer through winamp and on a stand-alone cd player).

I haven't encountered this issue before - all other mp3s burn without any problems whatsoever.

These mp3s work perfect as mp3s (=sound alright in Winamp), but not when burnt onto a cd - the songs are there, they are the correct length, but I hear only silence.

I've tried more than once with the exact same result. I've tried other mp3s both before and after which work perfectly.

Thus I rule out any issues either with my handling of the ImgBurn program, the media or my computer/cd-burner. I've looked through the last dozen pages of these forums but with no luck.

Any suggestions or links where I can get an explanation?

It means there's something in the file that your directshow filters cannot handle.

Play them in graphedit and you'll probably find that doesn't work either - ImgBurn mirrors the way graphedit works (for the most part anyway).

I've added code to the next version of ImgBurn to catch this problem before you burn the disc.

Thank you for your prompt reply! :)

I found and dl'd version 9.04.78.0000 Build: 041201 of GraphEdit, and indeed the mp3 stutter and play "too fast" when rendered in there.

Considering winamp plays the files just fine, it seems winamp and imgburn/graphedit uses different technology to play my mp3's?

So what am I missing? Are these mp3s "new and advanced" and if so, is there some kind of mp3 codec pack (freeware) that upgrades my computer's ability to render newer mp3s?

In other words, what do I need for imgburn to play/burn these files as nicely as winamp does on my Windows 2000 computer?

Regards,

T

As far as I'm aware I've never downloaded any plugin for this format to my winamp, which plays the mp3's just fine.

Then I checked, and the installed input plug-ins are CD/Line-in, DirectShow, MIDI, Module Decoder, MPEG Audio, MP4 demuxer, NSV, Vorbis, Waveform and WINAMP/WMA. The output ones are Disk Writer, DirectSound and waveOut.

I believe there's another, more likely, reason why this specific set of mp3s result in "there's something my directshow filters cannot handle" and would appreciate any suggestions! :-)
