Make Boot CD Help

I need to update the firmware on my WD hard disk. There is a utility to do this available from WD Support, but has to be put on/run from a "formatted floppy". My laptop does not have floppy so I'm trying to make a bootable cd with the WD utility on in. Here is the WD support article: http://wdc.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/wdc.cfg/ph...;p_sp=undefined

Here are the files that are supposed to be saved to a formatted floppy:

Autoexec.bat

command.com

dlglice.txt

ibmbio.com

ibmdos.com

wdupd020.exe

wdupd020.txt

Looks like I need to make a bootable (dos) cd with wdupd020.exe on it? How can I do this?

I've made a bootable image with your update utility (tested on a virtual machine and it even works :P ) and attached to this post: you can download it and burn to disc :) (have Verify enabled to make sure it was properly burnt!)

I have to say one thing though: usually in laptops the CD/DVD drive is connected in the same cable as the HD, so, in theory, this could interfere with the HD firmware update :(

I took a bootable floppy image from here (Win98SE under Non-Windows Based Image Files W/ImageApp) and used Micro$oft's Virtual PC 2007 (VMWare also would work) to mount this floppy image to a virtual machine, which you can then edit just like as if it was a real floppy disk. Then I used ImgBurn to create a bootable CD/DVD image using the modified floppy image as the bootable source :)

There is a much simpler method for making &/or editing existing boot images.

Search for a freeware utility called file called vfd.exe or vfdwin.exe This is an extremely light weight virtual floppy device driver. I tried to find

You certainly don't need a virtual machine & the additional memory to run it.

Download it here...
