I have been unable to succesfully burn DVD's using ImgBurn. I have a new system and ASUS DVD burner. The program burns both layers but fails when synchronising cache. Subsequent errors include closing track failed and finalise disk failed. Options used in the ImgBurn program include UDF 2.50 file system and recurse subdirectories. Currently using Memorex DL 2.4x media. See attached log for details. Can anyone please shed some light on this issues.

Thanks

Only use Verbatim, +R, 2.4x, MKM-001-00, Made in Singapore - the rest are just not up to snuff.

I have tried using Verbatim DVD+R DL and its the same result as described earlier. Additional information collected include this message generated by ImgBurn:

Finalise Disc Failed

Device [1:0:0] ASUS DRW-2014S1T 1.01 (D:) (ATA)

Cannot Format Medium - Incompatible Medium

In both the earlier burn and this last burn the DVD is actually playable on the PS3. Only problem is that there is a green bar across the bottom 25% of the screen and in both cases the image is supposed to be 720p but is only 480p. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Could you post the whole log from the burn with the Verbatim DVD+R DL? You can find it at Help/ImgBurn Logs.

This is a bit strange. I've not seen a writer that reckons it can burn those disks at 8x. Are you using the latest and stock firmware?

It might be an idea to go to the ASUS site and reload your firmware.

I tried yesterday to find any new firmware on the Asus pages, the only one I could find was version 1.00. :(

Pioneer, BenQ, Lite-On, all of them have been able to burn MKM-001-00 at 8x with standard firmware (have a look in the Drives & Media section).

The firmware his burner has is newer than the 1.00 version available at Asus' site.

Exactly! I did the same. Wonder where he got 1.01 from?

I just picked up the ASUS burner less than two weeks ago and firmware version 1.01 came with this burner. Is it possible that this firmware version is a beta release. Should I try to go back to version 1.00? Or will this cause more problems. I have succesfully burned other DVD's with Nero software but at his point only on single layer media. I will burn another DL disk at 2.4x speed and get back to you on this.

In the meantime can anyone explain why the green bar is appearing on the screen. Can this be an issue with ImgBurn software. Also the movie clip is supposed to be reproducing 720p image but I am only getting 480p.

Thanks for your continued support.

It would be handy to see if ImgBurn picks up on the same error when burning normal SL discs.

I can't even find out what the error code the drive is returning ( ASC 0x00, ASCQ 0x0B ) actually means!

Can you burn such a disc in ImgBurn and provide us with the log again please?

Any SL discs will do... DVD-RW, DVD+RW etc... the more the merrier!

Was succesful at burning a single layer Memorex DVD+RW at 2.4x speed. See log below. I will next try to burn a DVD+R at 2.4x hopefully it will work. One question why would the burn speed affect the chances of a successful burn? Can someone let me know.

Thanks again

If the laser in your writer is not good at writing at high speeds, lower speeds might give you more success.
