tebbens
My CD drive is not working after I tried to burn a CD. I'm not sure this is an issue with ImgBurn (bug), or just that the drive malfunctioned. I was burning an ISO of Ubuntu and it appeared to be working find untill the end. Just before it finished I got some error messages, which I did not write down. Now, everytime I put a CD in the drive I get "Media not present". The drive is not seeing that there is a CD inserted. No other errors show up while booting, in BIOS Setup...etc. Just that the drive does not recognize any CD, or that a CD is inserted. When a CD is inserted, the activity led blinks 2 times like its looking for a CD, but thats it. I installed DVDInfoPro to trouble shoot this and for more info on the drive. (the drive is new and was working fine just before this problem) The drive is a SONY CD-RW CRX217E. I attached the IBG file from the burn that killed the drive. If there is any more information I should post, please let me know. Are there any Advanced Commands or something I can do to figure out whats wrong ? Thanks for any help! tebbens
I posted the log file, maybe that will help. I have tried to use a CD cleaner... one of those CDs with small brushes to clean dust... but the CD Drive will not spin it because it does not see the CD in the Drive. Cynthia
I 17:27:40 Destination Media Type: CD-R (Disc ID: 97m15s17f)I 00:01:52 Destination Media Type: CD-R (Disc ID: 97m15s17f) (Speeds: 12x, 16x, 24x, 32x, 40x) To me it looks as your Sony drivers firmware don't support/like that media. There should be a later firmware for that writer - 1DS2. If it's a Dell computer - look at the Dell web page.

I updated the LOG file with the related information. If I used Media that wasn't supported by the firmware, would that kill the drive ?
Cynthia
No, the worst that could happen is that you get a writing error.
Cynthia
Here is the 1DS2 firmware. http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/...p;fileid=143301 If/when you flash the Sony writer: No disc in the writer Tray closed All other programs closed
LIGHTNING UK!
If it's not spinning the disc then it sounds like the motor has gone. I can hear most of my drives spinning when I insert the tray - even when there's no disc in them.

I updated the firmware, but it stll says Media Not Present. I'm pretty sure the drive is dead. How does a CD drve check to see if a CD is inserted? LIGHTNING UK!
It spins it and tries to read it. I assume it won't read anything now yeah? CD-ROM, CD-R and CD-RW If it's new (which you say it is), send it back for a replacement.

Is there a way to force the drive to spin the CD? I'm curious if its the motor.
LIGHTNING UK!
No. If you have no plans on returning it, take it apart and mess around with it. You might see what's broken - I'm not sure if they use belts/cogs or anything to turn the spindle.
