svar Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 I am trying to burn a ubuntu alternate iso on a dvd(it's too big for a CD). I put in a fresh dvd, and get this message: Device Not Ready(Unable to Recover TOC) Any hints what this is about?
volvofl10 Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 it means the drive cannot read/recognise the disc .it could be because the disc is damaged or dirty or maybe the drive does not like that paticular type/format of disc
svar Posted June 11, 2008 Author Posted June 11, 2008 it means the drive cannot read/recognise the disc .it could be because the disc is damaged or dirty or maybe the drive does not like that paticular type/format of disc Ok, any suggestions what dvd to use then? This is a dell laptop with a TSST corp CDRW/DVD TSL462D cd/dvd reader/burner
LIGHTNING UK! Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 Normally if the drive has 'CDRW' in the identifier it means it's a CD burner and a DVD *reader*. As such you won't be able to burn DVDs. Look in the ImgBurn log window, it'll tell you what type of drives are found. Copy + paste the line here if you like so we can see it too.

LIGHTNING UK! Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 Yup, it's a simple CD burner, DVD reader. If you want to burn DVD's you'll need to buy a DVD burner.
