I/O error

I have an ISO file from a dvd backup that I am trying to write to disk, however I keep getting an error at 82% complete.

I have run checkdesk (chkdsk) and fixed all the errors it found but I get the same result.

My thought is that the ISO itself may be buggered. Unfortunatelly I have lent my origional DVD to a mate, so I can't test that out until I cvan get it back and make another ISO.

Logs are below... error is at 19.22.48...... any thoughts?

There's a newer firmware 1.06 available for your burner here (AD-7200 S-ATA in that list), but it seems your computer is having problems communicating with the burner, so I wouldn't apply the firmware just yet.

Download and install the latest storage drivers available for your motherboard. If you don't know which brand/model you have you can find out with SIW, Everest, Sandra and many other softwares.

If you have a DVD-RW or DVD+RW lying around, boot Windows in safe mode and try burning that image. It'll be a lot slower than usual but might give us more clues as to where the problem is.

Thanks, I'll try the motherboard drivers, I think I have the latest, I have a eVGA 780i, but I'll check anyway.

Just checking you want me to try to burn the image I am having trouble with while in safe mode? I didn't know that would work; but I'll give it a go and post the logs tomorrow when I get home from work

----

I tried chkdsk /f to fix any bad sectors, its said some were fixed. Is that what you meant Lightning? Or is there another option to scan the disk surface?

Thanks for the help.

ImgBurn burns images as they are (i.e. it doesn't deeply analise the image file), but the errors you're getting are from reading the ISO file itself from your HD and a strange error from the burner when finalising the disc.

The burn in safe mode would give us an idea if it's related to storage drivers or not, but only do it if you have a DVD-RW or DVD+RW lying around, as I don't think it's worthy enough for possibly wasting another DVD+R.

By the way, the option LUK refers to would be chkdsk /r x: (when using the /r option it also automatically uses the /f option) :)

Ok, so I have run chkdsk /r. I have checked and I have the latest drivers for my mainboiard (9.64 for the eVGA nForce 780i). I have also updated my burner firmware.

I have since tried the first proplem dvd and now a second dvd which has the same problem. The first freeze's at 82%, the 2n'd at 25%. Same place everytime. Is it just a problem with the ISO's?

I haven't tried the safe mode burn yet, but I can give it a go if you think it will help.

I don't have anyothe ISO's to burn at the moment, but I havem't been having trouble with any others and have managed to burn some since this problem started.

What do you guys reckon I should do next, just give up on those ISO's and try to make them again?

Here is the log from the latest attempt;

I 23:05:13 Searching for SCSI / ATAPI devices...

I 23:05:13 Found 3 DVD-ROMs and 1 DVD

E 23:12:38 Failed to read from file: HAIRSPRAY.ISO

OK that's your first error message in this run.

It follows on the heels of these warnings:

W 23:07:39 Waiting for buffers to recover... (LBA: 508192)

W 23:07:44 Waiting for hard disk activity to reach threshold level...

I believe your ISO is most probably corrupted, the drive is trying to reread the bad sector(s) while your buffers are dumped to disc and the drive/buffer system is trying to play catch-up when the theshold alert is triggered; finally the drive gives up and reports the file as uneadable and the burn is compromised.

Also

Disc ID: SONY-D21-00
is not one that we recommend here.
