sorewinner Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 *sigh* so it's back again... CD-R's can only have 512Mb free space? A little background: I modified the letter, icon and label of the drive. Previously, I could use a custom drive label, with no problems. But, if I also modified the icon, Windows XP seems to identify all CD-R media as having 512Mb of free space, even though it says that it has 80 minutes free. As of last night, it seems to be broken again. The only thing different about last night was the 3 updates that MS pushed out. I don't know anything about how SPTI works, but I'm hoping that someone here does, and can help shed some light on why Windows has no problems recognizing DVD sizes, but borks on blank CD-R sizes.
mmalves Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 With ImgBurn open in Write mode and a blank CD-R in your burner, please post all the text shown in the Information pane. By the way, ImgBurn gets this info directly from the drive, so it seems your burner needs a firmware update.
sorewinner Posted September 10, 2008 Author Posted September 10, 2008 What I originally posted was what you're asking for. Also, the drive (HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4084N KQ09 (ATA) is running the latest FW - KQ09, just RPC modded.
mmalves Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 In ImgBurn, go to Tools -> Filter Driver Load Order. Use the clipboard button to copy the filter list then please post it here

mmalves Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 Do those blanks show the right size on other burners? It seems your drive can't properly recognise those blanks, so the only solution is to try other CD-R brands.
sorewinner Posted September 11, 2008 Author Posted September 11, 2008 (edited) It does it on any brand: RiDATA, Verbatim, HP. The drive is obviously capable of querying media, as it just flips out with the combinations of modifying the icon and the label. What I'd like to find out is why. EDIT: All CD-R media is properly recognized on other burners. Edited September 11, 2008 by sorewinner
LIGHTNING UK! Posted September 11, 2008 Posted September 11, 2008 So doesn't your last 'edit' mean it's just that 1 burner that's messed up? Why are you changing the label and icon of the drive anyway?! (what an odd thing to do!)
