Layer Break Problems

Many people get layer break problems with DL discs. Verbatim discs are recommended here, but the problems have far more complex roots than just the brand of the used discs.

The most common problem are layer break look-alike hiccups, around the chosen layer break spot itself.

Please examine the website of the competitor: http://www.gearsoftware.com/howtoguides/dv...obreakpoint.cfm

It is incredibly complex theory. I have downloaded the Gear layerbreak calculator worksheet but I'm just too stupid to use it.

It seems a chosen layer break:

  • must be less than 2,074,496 sectors so that layer 0 does not exceed the maximum capacity of a DVD-9 layer
  • must be outside a 16-sector ECC block thus must be on a sector that is evenly divisible by 16
  • must be greater than 1/2 the total sectors of the disc thus insuring that layer 0 is bigger than layer 1 for Opposite Track Path (OTP) discs (= DVD Video)
  • must point to the start of an IFO File, or the start of a program cell within a VOB.
  • ideally, it should be at a cell that is flagged as non-seamless

When I read this, I thought of my grandma on a wooden raft, but that did not do anything.

So, does the IMGburn layer break function incorporate all these complex demands when one chooses a layer break spot?

(If not, your layer break will cause errors or you could be astronomical lucky and find it working.)
