Hi everybody. I'm burning with an NEC 3500AG drive. I'm using Verbatim MKM 001 discs. I've successfully burned DL discs using Img Burn in the past. Now, all of a sudden, I can't. I've tried various firmwares, prior versions of Img Burn ... I've tried everything. I'm ruining disc after disc. They all have the same message. The log is as follows:

I 22:57:07 ImgBurn Version 2.4.1.0 started!

I 22:57:07 Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600 : Service Pack 2)

I 22:57:07 Total Physical Memory: 1,571,820 KB - Available: 1,039,480 KB

I 22:57:07 Initialising SPTI...

I 22:57:07 Searching for SCSI / ATAPI devices...

I 22:57:07 Found 2 DVD-ROMs and 1 DVD

Are the Verbs made in Singapore? Might be time for a new drive, yours is getting pretty old.

How do you tell where the discs are made?

I 22:59:11 Destination Device: [1:1:0] _NEC DVD_RW ND-3500AG 2.R8 (D:) (ATA)

I 22:59:11 Destination Media Type: DVD+R DL (Disc ID: MKM-001-00) (Speeds: 2.4x, 4x)

I 22:59:11 Write Speed: MAX

The error is coming from your drive so please use the latest ImgBurn version. Have you tried burning at 2.4x? If that doesn't work, try a lens cleaner disc on that drive. You might also want to try firmware 2.1b for your burner.

I did try with the latest version of ImgBurn. The same thing happened. Also, I did try at 2.4 and got the same results. And, the discs were made in Singapore.

As I said, this problem JUST STARTED, after having burned 20 or 30 successful DL discs.

Is there anyone with a suggestion other than "use Singapore discs or get a new drive?"

Thanks!!

The burn process depends on the burner/firmware/media combination, so these are the options you may change in order to get successful burns.

Burners are mechanical devices and they wear out like everything else. The latest firmware ensures the burner knows how to properly burn most media. Good quality media is essential for good quality burns. Also notice that the Verbatim DVD+R DL blanks with MKM-001-00 dye are rated for burning at 2.4x, and you're burning them at 4x, which could be considered overspeeding.

Not yet. As LUK says a new drive would be cheap and you wouldn't be pulling your hair out trying to figure what the problem is. If you need suggestions for a new drive just ask.

I'm open to suggestions for a new drive ... they are cheap enough. Any suggestions? I need an IDE drive, my computer is a few years old and doesn't have SATA.

Thanks again!

I would go for an Optiarc 7200a or either a Pioneer 115 or 116. Newegg usually has very good prices on drives if you want to order on line and live in the U.S. or Canada.

UPDATE!

My drive came quickly, I installed it without a problem and have been happily burning DL discs without a failure.

Thanks for the help!!!!!
