webnoid Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 Ok, I've read the guides, I've looked through the FAQs and I've looked through the forums, including cdfreaks.com. I won't say it was wasted time since I'm new to this stuff and I'm learning a lot from you all, but I have wasted several DVD+R discs and to quote Bono (the U2 lead, not Sonny), "I still haven't found what I'm looking for" Here's the deal: I'm trying to burn some DVD's that will play on my DVD players around the house. I haven't done this in a while, but in the past, on a differnt PC I was able to do this. On my new PC (Dell Optiplex 745) I haven't had much success. According to my research on this site my DVD Drive is an LG, but whenever I try to change the Book Type, I get an Invalid Command Operation Code. Below is my current log file and what ImgBurn reports for this device: Log File: I 10:26:30 ImgBurn Version 2.4.2.0 started! I 10:26:30 Microsoft Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600 : Service Pack 3) I 10:26:30 Total Physical Memory: 2,881,064 KB - Available: 2,082,544 KB I 10:26:30 Initialising SPTI... LIGHTNING UK! Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 That means your drive doesn't support booktyping or the drivers are blocking the command.
techman Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 from what I can understand you trying to set book type for a DVD+R or R/W but it shows your using a CD-RW profile so not sure why that is.
webnoid Posted October 21, 2008 Author Posted October 21, 2008 Sorry, I had the wrong disk in there. Here is the info for the DVD+R. It still gives the same error, but I see it does say that it is already a book type of CD+R, so I guess I don't need to pursue that issue. From what I understand, if the book type is CD+R, it should play on most DVD players, correct? LIGHTNING UK! Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 DVD-ROM is the 'compatible' booktype, DVD+R is the standard disc format.
techman Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 book type mainly used to set DVD-ROM on DVD+R RW media to make it compatible with dvd player that read the booktype. If you set the book type on a DVD+R you can't change it as it write once media for that use.
LOCOENG Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 Here is some good reading for you ~ http://booktypefaq.com/ EDIT: Looks like k-probe could use an update to their guide.
