Pretty much as topic says. I use a mix of both MKM-003-00 and MKM-001-00 Verbatims DVD+R DL. The error always comes to play at exactly 50%. The failure rate is around half the discs or so. I'll enclose the log so you can get a better picture of what it is doing.

Make and firmware: DVD+R DL NEC 3520AW 3.07 liggy BT orig

I 12:22:21 ImgBurn Version 2.4.2.0 started!

I 12:22:21 Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium x64 Edition (6.0, Build 6001 : Service Pack 1)

So you get the same 'Unrecovered Read Error' error on MKM-001-00 discs?

Have you tried cleaning the drive?

It must be creating a disc with high errors rates and that's what's stopping it from being able to read back the 2nd layer.

If cleaning doesn't work, invest in a new drive.

Yes, it's the same error at what seems an equal rate of discs (003 and 001). I'll try cleaning it first, and if there is no more replies from me anytime soon assume i'm looking for a new drive:/

There's no magical fix for these errors. The drive generates them based on realtime problems between the drive / firmware / media combo.

If the 3 aren't playing nicely together it'll throw up an error which ImgBurn then reports.

Firmware updates are the first things to check for, then check you're using decent media (you are), then try cleaning the drive, then throw the drive in the bin.

Happy shopping!

Solved:

For future reference, what I did was experiment with different kinds of custom firmware and found that 3.F3 MadDog firmware worked perfectly, which I found sort of odd since everyone and their dogs recommended liggy's. No more errors at a 10 out of 10 test - and i highly doubt that i'm just having a extremely good luck even though it's always a possibility. Hope this helps someone else should they run into the same problem.
