DewIT Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 Can't seem to get imgburn to work for me....newbie just started using imgburn a couple days ago. Goal is to back up a 50GB folder to multiple DVDs. The folders contain large .dv files which need to be kept in their raw format. Initially tried creating the entire 50GB .iso file but when I tried to burn to dvd it failed. I then figured out how to set the File Splitting for "Build". I set the file splitting to 4GB and then tried to create .iso files for each individual .dv file.....there are 5 of them spread across 3 folders under the main folder. The .dv files range from 14GB to 17GB each. Imgburn created 5 files (xxxx.i00 - xxxx.i04) and the .mds file. When I try to burn the .mds to DVD it appears to get to the end of the dvd then errors out. Or a more simple question....how do I get this 50GB folder onto DVDs? **** I 16:43:21 ImgBurn Version 2.4.2.0 started! I 16:43:21 Microsoft Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600 : Service Pack 3) I 16:43:21 Total Physical Memory: 2,086,980 KB - Available: 1,387,208 KB I 16:43:21 Initialising SPTI... I 16:43:21 Searching for SCSI / ATAPI devices... I 16:43:21 Found 1 DVD
LIGHTNING UK! Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 ImgBurn doesn't do what you're trying to do. Use a proper backup tool, file splitting isn't what you want it to be.
DewIT Posted December 5, 2008 Author Posted December 5, 2008 Thanks LUK. Just to be sure, I can't take a 17GB .dv file and write it to an .iso with the Build option for file splitting of 4GB then write it to DVD? Imgburn created the .i00 - .i04 files plus the .mds, file what is the purpose of this functionality if not for making multiple DVDs from large files? Thanks again and kudos to a nice piece of software
mmalves Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 The purpose is to create a split disc image, not splitting a file over several discs. Have a look at 7-Zip / WinRAR
DewIT Posted December 5, 2008 Author Posted December 5, 2008 Mmalves, thanks. I use 7-zip but am not familiar with how it can be used to split up a 17GB .dv file. Can you shed some light?
