New Burns, Same Disks, New Burner rarely read in xbox

Hello! I'm new to posting here and I Hope this is the correct place.

I have a batch of Verbatim DLs that I burned previously using the burner in my Laptop, and those play perfectly fine, first try in my Xbox 360.

Recently, that burner failed on me, and I'm using a Sony External DL Burner now. I'm using the exact same disks, and for some reason the disks wont read in my Xbox 360. The wierd part is, they'll read SOMETIMES.. After about 15 tries (sometimes more) it'll actually read the game.

Does anyone have any idea why this may be? Or suggestions on what I can do for it to burn better so they play every try like the older ones? Some of the games I've tried tonight won't play what so ever regardless of how many times i open/close the tray.

Any suggestions would be amazingly appreciated!.

Thanks!

After extensive reading, I'm thinking my issue may be in the Booktype.. On my main IMGburn screen it's set to DVD DL... And I believe for an xbox 360 to read it DVD-ROM is preferred. SONY isn't listed in change booktype (common issue I know) but I'm wondering how to change it and which settings. I'm unable to find any information on this with my drive while searching.

If this isn't the issue than any other suggestions would be fantastic!

My Drive: Sony DRX-810UL

You could insert the disc you burnt in your writer and use the write mode to see how the disc looks in the right panel info window.

You should see something like this. The read marked part should - if the writer managed to set the book type automatic - correspond the same info as in my log.

ATAPI DVD A DH20A3H YV6D (ATA)

Current Profile: DVD+R DL

Disc Information:

Status: Complete

Erasable: No

Sessions: 1

Sectors: 4

Your writer seems to be a rebadged BenQ 1640. You could set the book type function by using the option book type.

In the main menus of ImgBurn: Write mode -> Device -> Change Book type and then use the Benq tab/sub menu

There is a part of the guide that shows how to set up a Sony as a rebadged Lite-On, just use the Benq info instead of the Lite-On info.

See part # 4.2.12.1 Lite-On

# 4.2.12.2 Advanced

Ok All of that is completed. Is it normal that after I changed it, In the right column on the main page it still lists:

Physical Format Information (ADIP):

Disc ID: MKM-001-00

Book Type: DVD+R DL

Part Version: 1

Disc Size: 120mm

EDIT**

I tried burning a disk following those instructions and it still doesnt seem to be working. In the advanced portion where I click BenQ and type in the Sony Model Number, in the "Change Book Type Menu" it lists the drive as SONY DVD RW DRU-810A 2.0f (E:) (USB)

In the Main Program Window it lists it as SONY DVD RW DRU-810A (E:)

So which do I put in the field after I choose BenQ in the advanced menu? Currently I have:

SONY DVD RW DRU-810A and it didnt work.. should I try putting the 2.0f after it?

I think your drive automatically booktypes DVD+R DL media to DVD-ROM. Insert one of the burned discs and look at the 'Book Type:' parameter under Physical Information (Last Recorded), as this is the one that matters.

You should just have 'SONY DVD RW DRU-810A' written in the advanced section, just make sure it's under the BenQ header!

Next time you burn, turn on verify.

You should also try doing a disc quality / pipo scan on the burnt media in something like DVDInfoPro or CDSpeed.

It looks like the quality so far in the scan is good. And in response to MMalves, the parameter under Physical Information (Last Recorded) does actually show DVD Rom..

I'm currently going to try a burn with the Verify Box Checked, It wasnt before, could that actually be a determining factor in how well the xbox will read the disk?

The Verify checks the burned disc data against the source data, thus making sure it was correctly burned. It doesn't/can't affect burn quality, as that depends on 3 things: burner, firmware and media :)

Yeah, that definetely makes sense.. And the Quality is great, its the same disks I used before with my internal burner (which is now broken) and they all work perfectly fine. The sketchy part about all of this is the disks im burning work SOMETIMES... like a 1/10 success rate if i keep opening/closing my xbox tray. Thats why I assumed that it was the Book Type but I'm honestly unsure. I'm not so great with this stuff.

I Just completed a burn:
