Caleb Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 (edited) Hi guys, I've recently ordered 2 Karate instructional DVDs, they came in great condition (DVDs were sealed). I wanted to make sure that they stay that way, so I decided to back them up. I've never backuped up DVDs before, so maybe this might be a n00b question that had been answered before. I'm getting Read errors at around 66% on both DVDs when I try to create an image file with ImgBurn, but the DVDs play just fine in my media player. Am I doing something wrong, or are these DVDs screwed and I should get a replacement? I've tried it on two different computers with two drives, here are the errors: Thanks! mmalves Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 Are those pressed, original DVDs? If they are that's probably some kind of copy protection, and ImgBurn can't read protected discs.
Caleb Posted December 9, 2008 Author Posted December 9, 2008 Are those pressed, original DVDs? If they are that's probably some kind of copy protection, and ImgBurn can't read protected discs. I guess so, how do I check? I installed AnyDVD and tried again, but I got the same seek errors. Here's what DVDInfoPro gives me when I do an error scan:
LIGHTNING UK! Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 It's a lot easier if you just post the info from the log window, that's what it's there for (please don't close it!).

LIGHTNING UK! Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 Back on the main screen in read mode, please copy + paste the disc info from the right hand side when that disc is in the drive. Update the firmware on your drive first though please. You should be on 1.04 now. http://www.sony-optiarc.eu/en/support-serv...-ad-series.html Just scroll down to the 7173 P-ATA model.
Caleb Posted December 9, 2008 Author Posted December 9, 2008 I upgraded the firmware, here's the disc info: Optiarc DVD RW AD-7173A 1-04 (ATA) Current Profile: DVD-R Disc Information: Status: Complete Erasable: No Sessions: 1 Sectors: 2,297,888 Size: 4,706,074,624 bytes Time: 510:40:38 (MM:SS:FF) TOC Information: Session 1... LIGHTNING UK! Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 I'm amazed that a TYG02 is unreadable, they're all I ever really use and I've never had a single problem with them. Are you sure the surface isn't damaged? Pretty much all you can do is try the disc in every drive you can lay your hands on and hope one of them can read it properly. You might like to slow the read speed down too, sometimes that can help.
mmalves Posted December 10, 2008 Posted December 10, 2008 I highly doubt those are genuine Taiyo Yuden blanks...
Caleb Posted December 12, 2008 Author Posted December 12, 2008 (edited) I tried yet ANOTHER drive and it finally worked. Thanks guys! Edited December 12, 2008 by Caleb
