hoosier14 Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 Hello, I've been playing with ImgBurn for the past few days and have been reading most of the related forum posts to try and figure out why ImgBurn is giving me this message. At first the DVD will load as if the drive and/or program is going to pick it up, but then "Device Not Ready (Unknown 0x28, 0x81)" (atleast I think that is what it says) flashes before "Device Not Ready (Logical Unit not ready, Cause not reportable)" is given. So far I have tried about everything I can think of. I was initially trying to use Memorex DVD-R 4x, then was given a few Imation DVD-R 16x, and earlier I purchased some Sony DVD-R 16x and all three types give me the same message when I attempt to burn a DVD. A relative gave me the Imation DVD-R's because he has been using those DVDs without any problems when burning with ImgBurn. I'd appreciate any help that you might be able to give me. Thanks. Here's my log: I 15:47:40 ImgBurn Version 2.4.2.0 started! I 15:47:40 Microsoft Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600 : Service Pack 2) I 15:47:40 Total Physical Memory: 515,568 KB - Available: 109,420 KB I 15:47:40 Initialising SPTI... I 15:47:40 Searching for SCSI / ATAPI devices... I 15:47:40 Found 1 DVD-ROM/CD-RW and 1 DVD
mmalves Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 I know this may sound silly, but are you putting the writable discs in the DVD burner? I'm asking because you also have a CD burner, and that isn't capable of burning DVDs and shows a message similar to the one you're getting when you insert a blank writable disc in it.

I've tried both drives and both of them come back with the same message. But, yes, I have been using the DVDRAM drive.
LIGHTNING UK! Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 Every drive is different, media that works in one doesn't have to work in another. Which specific model (and firmware version) do you have?
hoosier14 Posted December 23, 2008 Author Posted December 23, 2008 The driver brand is a LG and the model is a GSA-4167B. The firmware version that is associated is DL13. Both of my drives are LG and the firmware automatically checks for updates everyday.
LIGHTNING UK! Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 Put an original disc in, does the drive behave itself or do you still get the same message in the status bar?
hoosier14 Posted December 23, 2008 Author Posted December 23, 2008 When an original DVD is inserted in the drive the status bar says "Disc Not Empty". When a DVD-R that has already been recorded on (given to me by someone else) is inserted in the drive (Memorex Brand) I get the same message in the status bar as I did with a blank DVD-R. I was not sure what you meant by an original so I tried both.
LIGHTNING UK! Posted December 24, 2008 Posted December 24, 2008 Sounds like a drive issue then. Try the drive in another PC to double check. Cleaning the laser might work. Failing that, invest in a new one.
krystalconcepts Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 I have the same problem...the only difference is I have been burning using ImgBurn for about a month (30 successfuls DVD's), then I went to record a DVD yesterday and received the same message on start up of the app??? I have tried six different types of blank DVD's, uninstalling and reinstalling the DVD Recorder and nothing seems to work. The DVD drive still works fine for playback of disc's I have burnt. I have a LG Burner also.
mmalves Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 What's the brand, model and firmware version of your burner?
kreg Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 Currently getting the same error. Using a LG GSA-H10N drive with JL12 firmware. Media used is Verbatim x16 DvD-r Not really sure what to do about it atm..
mmalves Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 Does it recognize the discs it has previously burned?
