Have been using imgburn to burn some images (ISO)

Bought some discs a few months (3 different brands) to see which if any worked best.

Woolworths DVD's didnt work (maybe that was a message from god)

Kodak Discs - Worked perfecrtly

Tesco DVD's - Worked perfectly

all -R

so couple of days ago decide to purchase the Kodak discs but on every single disc i burnt (4) i got the 'Unable to recover TOC' error message.

not to worry i thought, so i took them back to the shop and explained they didnt work for what i purchased them for and got a refund.

so to be sure i bought the Tesco discs again knowing that the 24 discs ive burnt previously worked great.

1st 3 discs i burnt from the new batch i got the same message!!!

hmm, now baffled i wasnt sure what to do other google the issue.

in the process of surfing for a solution i found the very last disc in my old pack of Tesco discs, popped that into my machine and burnt the image perfectly veryfied the disc and all is working great.

so try a 4th disc of the same brand from the new pack again after getting success but no luck, i still get the 'Unable to recover TOC'

knowing my drive is fine and burnt images perfectly before it cant be a driver issue with the drive.

having a full pack of 25 discs that all burnt and now cant get a single disc to burn.

strange one! :(

heres my log anyway so if you got any ideas please let me know.

Thanks.

Go back to a disc that you've burnt and verified ok in the past and see what dye it was, then go online and find somewhere selling discs that use that dye.

I 01:15:57 Destination Media Type: DVD-R (Disc ID: UME01) (Speeds: 1x, 2x, 4x)

The dye 'UME01' obvioulsy doesn't work in your drive.

To be fair though it's about time you got yourself a new drive, your one isn't even capable of burning onto the DVD+ format discs.

As you can see the good/burnt disc is the same DYE as the non-working DVD.

so a batch of 25 (and i mean all 25) burnt and veryfied and work perfectly.

same brand, diff batch, same DYE. Do not work.

:(

if i thought my drive couldnt do the job id upgrade but knowing its all good id rather sort the issue out rather than avoid it by purchasing equipment that could well give me the same problem.

Any other ideas relative to the 'TOC' issue?

thanks

If you can't find a firmware update for it and you aren't willing to try some (or show us a log if you already have?) decent media (Verbatim / Taiyo Yuden) then you're out of luck.

Took a whole minute to find the latest firmware for that burner :whistling:

Anyway, if you buy a new burner you'll get much better quality burns, even on that :& media you're using...

well well hey, a whole minute of your life wasted trying to help someone.

while ive been waiting for a reply ive already sourced 1033firmware and installed which only took me 5 minutes.

so thats now a whole six minutes we've wasted between us at least.

anyway back on topic, upgraded firmware to 1033 and am burning a disc as we speak.

mmalves, thanks for the link, sometimes a whole forum can be quicker than a single searcher but in this instance it wasnt. :teehee:

I was asking for a log from the burn of a decent disc rather than just a log in general... yes the thing in your first post was a log :)

Hopefully the firmware update will help you this time but your drive is still old and these things don't last forever.

Not only that, the world of technology changes at a very fast pace. You've got a Model T Ford there where most people are now driving BMW M3's ;)

The link I've posted has firmware 1034, did it not work for you? By the way, I didn't mean to say I've wasted time searching for the firmware for you. I simply tried to point out that searching might get you a faster answer than waiting for our replies.

Anyway, I think it's time for a new burner for you, but don't worry, they're pretty cheap nowadays

1033 is for XP machines etc, from what i read the 1034 driver would possibly be for a diff operating system to mine.

Success. but im still non the wiser as im not able to ID a dvd until purchased it.

Dont spose there is a website for UK that tell what makers/products are and who they make them for etc ??

no worries if not, itll be either hit n miss on the discs or a new drive if i seem to miss more than hit.
