bornmild Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 I'm using ImgBurn to burn VIDEO_TS directory(s) to DVD on my new HP G70-212EM using the built in DVD writer ( TSST corp CDDVDW TS-L633m ). The burnt DVD can be played on the drive it was burnt. However, the created DVD cannot be played on my standalone DVD player ( Sony DVP-NS305 ). To try and isolate the problem ( and to eliminate media issues etc ) I have taken the exact same VIDEO_TS file and burnt to DVD using my works HP Compaq 6710b, running Windows XP Professional, on the built in DVD writer ( HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-T40L ). On the HP Compaq 6710b, using the same version of Imgburn and the same media ( Datawrite Yellow DVD-R 8x ), burnt at the same speed ( 4x ), produces a DVD that can be successfully played on the standalone DVD player. I have repeated this test a number of times and every DVD produced on the HP G70-212EM fails to play on the Sony DVD player , whereas every DVD produced on the HP Compaq 6710b succeeds. Have I got a faulty DVD writer on my new G70-212EM? Is it Vista issue? Firmware issue? I have spent hours trawling the internet for a resolution, but to no avail. Any help would be greatly appreciated :-) Log . . I 23:08:15 ImgBurn Version 2.4.2.0 started! mmalves Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 Have you tried with Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden media? Laptop drives are picky about the media they like.
bornmild Posted February 20, 2009 Author Posted February 20, 2009 Not tried Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden media as yet, I'll try and get hold of a batch. Just seems weird to me ( and frustrating ) that things works fine, including the media, in one environment but not in the other
spinningwheel Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 Yes, it is strange, but something we see all the time. Then it varies between batches of discs made in a single day by the manufacturer. The variables are sometimes mind blowing.
LIGHTNING UK! Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 Don't forget to verify your burns. That option is enabled by default for a good reason!
bornmild Posted February 21, 2009 Author Posted February 21, 2009 I bought and tried some Verbatim DVD -R 16x today - unfortunately I have exactly the same problem. Works in one environment but not in the other. Is there anything else I can try? - could this be a Vista issue? Firmware? DVD Writer problem? I appreciate your feedback so far ... any other advice would be welcome, my stack of coasters is getting bigger Log ... I 12:23:16 ImgBurn Version 2.4.2.0 started! Cynthia Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 The only thing that looks odd in that log is the speeds. As I can't find anything on the net about that writer regarding capacities (read speed) it might be that it only reads in 8x max. The only thing that I found is that there seems to be a new firmware for that writer. http://www.samsungodd.com/kor/Firmware/FWD.../FWDownload.asp Can you attach this file to a posting window? bornmild Posted February 21, 2009 Author Posted February 21, 2009 Thanks for replying ... I shall take a look at the new firmware. See attached for C:\Users\Simon\AppData\Roaming\ImgBurn\Graph Data Files\TSSTcorp_CDDVDW_TS-L633M_A0A0_21-FEBRUARY-2009_12-25_MCC_03RG20_8x.ibg. Thanks again! Cynthia Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 Don't know if it's only with me, but I get an error when I try to open that file.
bornmild Posted February 21, 2009 Author Posted February 21, 2009 Here's a file from a previous failure . . TSSTcorp_CDDVDW_TS_L633M_A0A0_19_FEBRUARY_2009_23_13_MCC_02RG20_4x.ibg
Cynthia Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 From the 4x write. Nothing odd to see. Might be that the Sony player likes +R media better. That could be book typed to DVD-ROM and tricky players seems to like that better. The book type is done automatic in ImgBurn for a Samsung writer.
bornmild Posted February 23, 2009 Author Posted February 23, 2009 Can you tell by the logs whether the discs are being finalized? I can't see anyhting in the log? Thanks again.

mmalves Posted February 23, 2009 Posted February 23, 2009 It doesn't show in the log but they are finalised at the end of the burn, or else an error message would be shown.
LIGHTNING UK! Posted February 23, 2009 Posted February 23, 2009 You can also then look in the disc info panel on the right when you're back on the main screen. It should say 'Status: Complete' in there somewhere. lol cool this thread is the only hit on google for 'TS-L633M A0A0'
