what happens if you open ImgBurn from your start menu instead of via an icon on desktop ?

Are you the 'Admistrator" on that machine or not ?

right click on the icon on the desktop select 'properties' and see if the shortcut target is the exe file in your ImgBurns folder in C drive

Do you see the splashscreen or nothing at all?

If it's the latter, either you've got a virus that's stopping it from loading or one of your antivirus/spyware/malware utils is playing silly buggers and doing the same thing.

Find out which one is correct and (in the case of software playing silly buggers) report it to the vendor.

Just to make sure: please uninstall the ImgBurn you have, reboot the computer, download the latest ImgBurn from the website and install it (if you're asked about keeping the settings answer No). Does it run now? Is there an ImgBurn.exe in the Processes list of Task Manager (right-click the taskbar to access this)?

Open it inside WinDbg (free download from Microsoft) and maybe it'll capture/log where the problem is.

It's actually paused at the point you're looking at, you need to press F5 (or Debug -> Go) inside WinDbg to make it run properly.

hello all. i came here looking for an answer to this same question.

when i click on my img burn icon it will show up briefly under the task manager, but then dissapear. it does not load the program at all. i have also noticed that this started happening with dvdfab platinum at the same time

here are some things that i have tried or noticed:

simple reinstall will not work.

tried installs to new directory, as well as a completely different harddisk.

tried this: cdfreaks clean install for dvdfab platinum

i am the only user for this machine (administrator)

booted to safe mode and dvdfab platinum DID load then. i did not try imgburn but i will after i write this.

i wondered if it was being blocked by my antivirus for some reason. have kaspersky installed, but i shut that down and still no luck.

ive never had a problem like this. and these 2 programs seem to be the only ones not working correctly. any insight would be appreciated. thank you!

i noticed something about an access violation in ram's scan above me. any clues?

EDIT:

well, this is certainly not a REAL fix, but i hope it will get you going like it did for me, ram.

right click your imgburn icon, and go to PROPERTIES.

click on the COMPATABILITY tab

check the box to run in compatability mode

i tried slecting win95 and win98. both options worked for me.

again, this isnt really a true fix. there is something wrong with how our machines are running executables. im running winxp. anyone have any ideas on a fix? ive tried running programs like tuneup utilities, and windows doctor. no luck

ramthx,

So it looks like it's sten.tfx that's crashing. I've never heard of it before so try googling it.

Locate the file on your hdd and delete/rename it, that should fix it. (It still looks like something dodgy to me!)

ericdee,

i have the same problem of not getting it to open. i have just recently installed micro office 2003 and mcaffee antivirus software. tried uninstalling both but imgburn still does not work. is there an alternative to imgburn in the mean time? i have 20 gigs of images i would like to burn

Decompress the exe with UPX, that normally gets around whatever crappy software is preventing it from loading.

Works perfectly now. Thank you so much. :)

So that proves it then.

You've still go some low level app running that's killing the ImgBurn process - probably because it's sees the UPX compressed EXE and thinks it's evil.

Ok, I'm having the same problem. UPX is something new to me and in my search to find a upx unpacker, I end up on a bunch of attack sites. Can anyone please give me a quick rundown of what I need to do to fix this. I am having the same problem as the others. It worked great and then bam, it quit. This is my wife's computer and all I want to do is get imgburn working.
