shen293 Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 Hi... So I burned a DVD and upon verifying..I get multiple erros..but while during the burn...it said it was 100% successful... I was wondering... to why I get so many errors while verifying? Here is my log: I 00:00:58 ImgBurn Version 2.4.2.0 started! I 00:00:58 Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition (5.1, Build 2600 : Service Pack 2) I 00:00:58 Total Physical Memory: 3,078,632 KB - Available: 2,399,824 KB W 00:00:58 Drive D:\ (FAT32) does not support single files > 4 GB in size. I 00:00:58 Initialising SPTI... I 00:00:58 Searching for SCSI / ATAPI devices... I 00:00:58 Found 1 DVD-ROM and 1 DVD
Cynthia Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 Are those genuine Verbatims or some rebadged discs? 8x with that brand should work best, even if 4x shouldn't cause those issues.
shen293 Posted March 5, 2009 Author Posted March 5, 2009 They are made in Taiwan... I was burning an ISO file..thats why I chose 4x speed.. as now my burning are like always successful compared to b4.. but verifying whatever file such as...Video_ts file ...ISO file and others..always give me some kind of error..
shen293 Posted March 5, 2009 Author Posted March 5, 2009 Im sorry I dont know where I can find memtest to run it.. what is it and what does it do? sry im new to this... thanks
mmalves Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 You can get it here: http://www.memtest.org/#downiso
Cynthia Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 Curious. If you use the read mode in ImgBurn, does that generate any reading errors from one of those burned discs?
shen293 Posted March 5, 2009 Author Posted March 5, 2009 I nvr used Read mode before... Should I try tho? and just to make sure.. read mode requires two discs yea? 1 to take the files from..the other is to burn it on the blank disc ...I believe so?
Cynthia Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 Read mode will just copy the burned disc to your hard disk. It's just a test to see if the burned disc can be read without generating any read errors.
shen293 Posted March 5, 2009 Author Posted March 5, 2009 Isnt that the same/similar function as DVD Shrink except that it doesn't need to be in a video ts file? Hmm...I believe that I haven't tried read mode yet...I'll try it ASAP and update you...thxs
shen293 Posted March 6, 2009 Author Posted March 6, 2009 Ok...so I used Read mode and have no problems here is my log: I 20:26:49 ImgBurn Version 2.4.2.0 started! I 20:26:49 Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition (5.1, Build 2600 : Service Pack 2) I 20:26:49 Total Physical Memory: 3,078,632 KB - Available: 2,418,944 KB W 20:26:49 Drive D:\ (FAT32) does not support single files > 4 GB in size. I 20:26:49 Initialising SPTI... I 20:26:49 Searching for SCSI / ATAPI devices... I 20:26:59 Found 1 DVD-ROM and 1 DVD
mmalves Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 That just means the drive can read the disc, but not that the disc is a perfect copy of the source image/files. We told you about memtest so that you can test your system's memory, as faulty memory can result in miscompares while verifying.
shen293 Posted March 6, 2009 Author Posted March 6, 2009 hmmm...I tried using one of the link.. and I'm kinda lost now to what I havta do it says that the file is supported... is there a guide to how to use it? sorry...
Cynthia Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 I 20:28:10 Read Speed (Data/Audio): 4x / 8xI 20:34:35 Average Read Rate: 11,952 KB/s (8.6x) - Maximum Read Rate: 36,875 KB/s (26.6x)
mmalves Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 Click the link I've posted above and download the pre-compiled bootable ISO (.zip) version. Open it and double-click on the ISO image inside (ImgBurn should open so that you can write that image to a disc). Burn it to a rewritable disc if you have one, or to a CD/DVD you can spare. When finished, leave the disc in the drive and reboot your computer. It should then automatically run Memtest+. Let it do at least 2 passes. Seeing as you have 3 GB of RAM that might take a while
shen293 Posted March 6, 2009 Author Posted March 6, 2009 Hmm...just wondering since I have 3 gb RAM and u said that it might take a while ... Is that luke a good thing or bad thing? I'll do as u instruct soon...thx for it
shen293 Posted March 7, 2009 Author Posted March 7, 2009 Ok So I already run the memtest.. and noticed that theres a lot of errors.. where can I go to check the results? and also what should I do now?
Cynthia Posted March 7, 2009 Posted March 7, 2009 Buy new memory sticks or get them refunded if there is some type of guarantee left on them.
shen293 Posted March 7, 2009 Author Posted March 7, 2009 And so I should assume that its my RAM thats causing these errrs?
LIGHTNING UK! Posted March 7, 2009 Posted March 7, 2009 memtest tests your ram. If you had lots of errors listed in memtest, yes it's your ram! Yes, it's your ram issues that are causing the miscompares. In fact, your machine should be very unstable in general... how have you not noticed it before now? apps must be crashing left, right and center.
shen293 Posted March 8, 2009 Author Posted March 8, 2009 Hmm...I've been noticing that alot since you mentioned it... My computer has been like crashing alot... but then during the memtest...there were like 2 sections that says errors.. 1 says (I'm not sure how much but alot) the other says none...
Cynthia Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 If you mother board allows single memory sticks (some needs to have two installed) you can remove one and then see if you get any errors during the mem test. That way you should know which stick that is faulty.
shen293 Posted March 9, 2009 Author Posted March 9, 2009 I'll try that out and is it possible that RAM can cause this much error?(as in constant crashing) and also verifying errors.. and since that theres errors while verifying.. does that mean that the file that I burn wasn't 100% successful?
Cynthia Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 The data is transfered through the memory so it can have been corrupted. Bad RAM can cause a lot of trouble.
shen293 Posted March 9, 2009 Author Posted March 9, 2009 I noticed Ok so here is the info on my added RAM First RAM (faulty/default) Cached:1983M RsvdMem:276M MemMap:e820-Std Test:Std Pass:1 Errors: 15872 Ecc Errors:0 Second RAM Cached: 1983M RsvdMem: 276M MemMap: e820-Std Cache: On Ecc: Off Test: Std Pass:1 Ecc Errors: - Ok so i removed the faulty RAM and now I should assume that when I verify my burn it should have no errors yea?
