LIGHTNING UK!
Does your drive recognise original (pressed) DVD-ROM discs?

LIGHTNING UK!
If possible you should try the drive in another pc. After that, you might like to consider getting a new one.
casketizer
This sometimes happens with my GSA T30L too. It seems to be a Vista related (Never happened to me in XP or Win7) firmware glitch. Try rebooting the PC with a complete power off/on cycle. This always fixes it for me. If that doesn't help, you might really need a new drive.
