Would my DVD+R DL Burning failure be due to the following?

Okay i had trouble finding verbatim so I did buy the Memorex DVD+R DL 8x and I have a dual core pentium 2GB Memory HP with a TSSTCorp TS-H653N Dual Layer DVD Burner and never had a problem with Memorex or any other brand DVD-R single layer disc using either Alcohol 120 or Nero. So i figured this should be a shoe in, WRONG!!. I went through 6 discs switching between clone cd and imgburn and 3 failed at 2% and I did enter a set break according to what I was burning on DVD certain games for a 360 console and they all failed with the error

I/O Error

Interpretation: Check Condition

Interpretation Write (10) - Sectors 97984-98015

Sense Area: 71 00 03 00 00 00 00 0A 00 00 00 00 OC 00 00 00 00 00

Would it again be the media and I Should have used Verbatim?

Any help would be greatly appreciated !!

Thanks!

Have a look here (there are links for online suppliers): http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?showtopic=8000

And yes, using the Verbatim blanks specified in the link above it should work :)

Thank you for the reassurance these Memorex are going back and i will shell out the extra $$$ for the verbatim although they are so damn expensive. I shouldnt check my drive for firmware updates however? I did read the FAQ earlier on verbatim.

Okay second disc...COASTER...3rd disc burning so far so good. YOu know what I want to know, what is so difficult about burning DVD DLs that there is the potential for so much waste and bad discs?? I mean single layer are never an issue, I dont remember when i had to throw out a DVD-r...

If you're having problems, do the sensible thing and post a log.

We can then recommend things like firmware updates or changing the write speed.

No I know i should if i am having problems..so far Disc #3 is burning well almost done. I just found it interesting the first Verbatim 2.4x DL burned excellent second was a dud and the third is fine..if the issue persists i WILL post a log of course..

Even the best media can fail for no apparent reason. That is one of the reasons we only recommend the two manufacturers here. Glad to read that it worked, now all you need do is get some experience in the 'doing' of it.

Seriously though spinningwheel you're right. but its hard to fathom that any company would intentionally manufacture product that they will ultimately get back returned when every single disc fails, I am not sure if I ran a company I would want that liability.

They all don't get returned to them by the consumer. A large reliance of retail is that consumers are lazy creatures that would sooner throw away than go through the hassle of calling, boxing and paying postage for something that is junk to them. The cost of a single disc is miniscule compared to the mark-up, so if CMC makes a bad daily run of 100K discs, they pass them on to the marketer that wholesales them as unbranded, budget, discounted or whatever and they go to the deep discount retailers who sell them and handle the problems should any arise. Simple economics for all concerned, except for the customer, who may or may not decide to return the product.... >_<
