if i try the same burn again it might suceed or it might slow down to 0.0x at a different point on the disc.
i had no problem witth the previous cheap discs i purchased only these verbatim ones?

the program is still running can the burn be rescued or shall i cancel burn?
and does anyone know what causes this problem?

Thanks
Darren

I take it you've no way of connecting the drive via the proper sata connector?

It could just be down to the way it's hooked up to your machine. It's getting stuck processing I/O requests... that's why the write rate drops to 0. The program is just waiting for your machine to respond and return control to it.

And those are actually cheap discs.  They may have Verbatim's name on them, but they're CMC Magnetics discs.  Verbatim does farm out to cheap CMC for some of their BD-RE.  Haven't seen them use it for their BD-R.  Verbatim makes the ones I use.  However, in your case, it's probably not the CMC media that is causing the problem as the cheap discs you mentioned using before the Verbatims didn't have this problem.  Unless they, too, had a Disc ID: CMCMAG.

Although by that same token, you used cheap discs before that worked fine but these cheap discs don't.  That seems to imply that your drive doesn't like that particular Disc ID.

Thanks will try the cheap ones i know work and try them again and let you know the results

the discid of the ones that work fine is RITEK-BR2-000 which are traxdata

the discid of the ones i am having problems with is CMCMAG-BA5-000 which is verbatim

Ritek's are better quality than CMC's.  I would be more likely to lay the problem on the CMC media.  Your drive probably doesn't like that DID.  CMC really is the bottom of the barrel optical disc manufacturer.  Probably over half the DVD burning issues we see on this board are caused by people using CMC media.  When they don't use it, the problems usually go away.  As you say, you don't have the problem with the Ritek's but you do with the CMC's.  So, it is probably the CMC's causing the problem.

Is your Pioneer the full size drive in an external enclosure or is it the slim USB 3.0 powered model they make?  Slim drives can be very problematic and aren't recommended.

full size in an enclosure

i had a slimline BR in an enclosure but ir wouldn't burn my Aone DL discs, i read somewhere that 5.25 was the way to go

so i invested in an icybox enclosure (I like the flashing lights) and a pioneer BDR-209D

it looks as if i have solved the problem, my enclosure was attached directly to my USB 3.0 ports, changed it to my USB 2.0 port and it works Fine

Yeah, slim models seem to very prone to problems.

Hm, must have been an issue with the USB 3.0 to SATA bridge in the enclosure.  Could have been the USB 3 cable.  Sometimes such issues are fixed by trying a different kind of cable, however, I've rarely seen that help.

What concerns me is why one brand of discs worked and another didn't.  Yet, switching to USB 2 fixed that problem?  I can't think of a reason why USB 3.0 would make a difference in that case.  Such issues are usually down to the drive itself not liking a particular DID.

But, the way I tend to see it, as long as you find a working solution, go with it.  The USB 2.0 speed shouldn't be an issue since, regardless of if you're using USB 2 or 3 speed, your SATA drive is still capped at the maximum write/read rate of the media.  You might get faster transfers to the HDD from USB 3.0 during reads and faster sends of data to the drive in writes, but your drive is still capped at its max speeds, which should probably always, theoretically, be less than USB 3.0 max.
