  2. I have used the Verbatim DataLifePlus CD-Rs before these and I must say, the results are very close, if not the same. I can't comment on if CMC preserved the original quality of Taiyo Yuden CDs, as I never used them before they were bought out by CMC, but the results seem promising. If anyone would want to purchase these discs, I would recommend buying them from B&H Photo Video. Amazon doesn't officially sell them and the 3rd party sellers are charging too much. BH sells them themselves so it's more reliable to buy from them. They can be found here: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1257816-REG/cmc_pro_tcdr_valzz_sk_pro_valueline_silver_thermal.html The LG WH16NS40 drive is a common one people use nowadays, and from my experience, the CMC PRO CD-R discs work as well as the DataLifePlus AZO discs with this drive. I also believe the price per disc is less, in the link I posted from BH Photo Video, you can get a 100 pack of CMC Pro CD-Rs for about $24. Whereas the Verbatim DataLifePlus AZO CD-Rs are going for $20 on Amazon for only a 50 pack: https://www.amazon.com/Verbatim-700MB-DataLifePlus-Inkjet-Printable/dp/B0001LS35W?crid=3LG8UH7JKNZL1&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.HR9uV01IrRju8p1hQEZTr0TWIlS-qRxisjEyZGWcl5gMZ_ujuu_PA0DfUpE7JiyahXg4p3IFVTk0CYAxNthGXN1kSSEV7eqdo8uSkYmpOurNv5NAOgeAD9ZWg9jIm7VX1IV4ytt6pHErU_kvXW_GDM65VKS7vRj1Yc_dQSLG7-bTDQy31Nj8-p7MxmU7EpJmKdsOFckEp7K4sEGRA9-4yJEZuxAHGiSsoiWV2lvim1I.R0udfWsiF6DoDxALAmOWjAOaC-_OkwQp-kLix7JGSSU&dib_tag=se&keywords=verbatim%2Bdatalifeplus%2Bcd-rs&qid=1742918521&sprefix=verbatim%2Bdatal%2Caps%2C126&sr=8-1&th=1 The value of the CMC Pro CD-R is better than the DataLifePlus discs right now and they yield the same, if not better results. I think we can start recommending the CMC PRO CD-Rs alongside the DataLifePlus CDs when we suggest media to other users. Of course, countries other than the US might have trouble finding CMC PRO CD-R as BH Photo Video is only selling in the US, I believe. Anyways, I hope this thread helps. If you would like more information, feel free to ask and I will do my best to provide it.

  6. I have been wanting to make this post for a long time but I never really got around to do it. Here I am now though. There has been a decent amount of talk about the CMC Pro CD-R discs on the forum but there wasn't ever really concrete testing with some results, so I thought I might post my results including scans and such. I believe since I don't already have so many posts on the forum, I can't post in the media section, so I will put this post in the Chat section for now. Maybe an admin or higher level could move this thread to the Media section if suitable. I will try my best to follow the format of other media tests so it's easy to find information. I also apologize for not having too many drives to test with. Anyway, here goes: Media: CMC Pro CD-R [Taiyo Yuden Co.] Burned With: HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GP65NB60 RF01 HL-DT-ST BD-RE WH16NS40 1.05 Slimtype DVDRW SOSW-833S VRS3 (Liteon) Scanned With: Slimtype DVDRW SOSW-833S VRS3 (Supports KProbe2)
  7. I find it suspicious that your error occurs around the same spot for BOTH discs. You burn 18 tracks and on the 18th track, you encounter the read error. This is present for the CMC disc burn in your first post and the Infodisc CD-RW used in your post afterwards. Since this is a pattern with two different types of discs, I feel like it could even be your drive. There are many factors involved here so it may sometimes be difficult to diagnose. I would recommend trying a different drive and seeing if it gets better or trying a slower burn speed. Also Mr. Minter still has a valid point and is only trying to help, most of the problems faced across this forum is due to faulty media, especially media manufactured by CMC Magnetics Corp. MOST of the time, switching to a different brand, like the Data Life Plus Discs Mr. Minter mentioned previously, tend to fix the issues as drives are more compatible with those discs.
  8. How about I don't supply any more help? I, at least, offered an opinion. Doesn't mean it's right.
  9. I just burned a dozen more audio discs to discs off that same spindle. ZERO problems. Here's a new log where I tried using that cue file to a CD-RW. SAME problem as I got with it before three times in a row. I used a fresh out of the package, never used before CD-RW, so it's not a 'worn out' rewriteable. How about actually having a look at the cue instead of just dissing and dismissing it as a problem with the brands of media? I took a close look at the CD-Rs and the CD-RW. Using this cue, imgburn is leaving a visible gap in the middle of the recorded area. That isn't there on the CD-R I burned with the files, without using the cue. ImgBurn.log
  10. It's probably what I suspected before even opening the log. This goes a bit toward explaining it: I 19:54:52 Source Media Type: CD-R (Disc ID: 97m26s66f, CMC Magnetics Corp.) but it does not as readily explain why the Sony disc also failed. However, I have a feeling it's related. CMC Magnetics Corporation makes the absolutely worst discs out there. They are utter trash. You most likely bought the Verbatim Life Series CD-R from a brick and mortar store. The Life Series are junk. Now, Sony isn't as easily dismissed, but, over the past 23 years, Sony has also made little but junk. So, I'd be willing to wager their CD-R are just as much garbage as their BD-R's are. First thing I'd concentrate on is not using the trash media. Get yourself some Verbatim DataLife Plus (NOT the Life Series.) or AZO CD-R. Mitsubishi makes those. Those and Taiyo Yuden were the best out there for decades. Don't know about the state of TY's anymore after CMC Magnetics bought them. CMC Pro DVD-R media is still quality TY discs, though, last I used them.
  11. Is it a problem with the cue file? I burned the files with another program without using the cue file and it made a working disc, but without the CD text info. ImgBurn.log Ultra-Lounge Vol. 02 - Mambo Fever.cue

  13. That's a option, but I prefer ImgBurn. also, this is a ImgBurn forum. so it makes more sense to say what I already did. besides... I always considered ImgBurn to be the best general burning software available as it's good for data burning and even a occasional Audio CD (hell, I even overburn Audio CD's to at least 82min 15 seconds on some Verbatim CD-R's I bought years ago now). p.s. even for native Linux software I think Xfburn is better as it's light where as K3b is a bit bloated.
  14. I think the primary reason flash drives will never be used as physical media for releasing movies is they can't be encrypted like an optical disc drive can. DVD's and Blu-Rays were created from the beginning with hardware encryption baked in. Flash drives came out before the idea to release movies on them. So, like CD's coming before DVD's, when the CD was first released, the idea of even being able to copy them was never conceived of. So, CD's weren't encrypted. Since flash drives had a use for general data before the idea of releasing them as movies was even a possibility, encrypting flash drives at the hardware level wasn't standardized. And even if hardware encryption were introduced, I'd think Hollywood would be deathly afraid to do it. Too easy to copy the contents as a DVD or Blu-Ray from flash drives to other media and, especially, uploaded everywhere. I believe the Sony PSP handheld console had movies released in something I think called the UMD format, which was basically a little flash drive with movies that only played on the PSP. But, that was the closest something like that ever came and that was a Sony proprietary format. I hope those DataLife BD-R DL work out for you! Unfortunately, the "logical" solution which should like it should work doesn't always. Reply back with your experiences with them. I'm curious to see if they're worth investing in. I've not gotten any due to the price, but I would have archive uses for them. I don't do BD movies, but I do lots of data archives to BD-R over the past decade.
  15. I ordered the 25-spindle of DataLife Plus BD-R DL from Amazon.ca. Hopefully they'll perform as well as the single-layer ones have for you. I'll probably continue burning to blu-ray as long as I have access to media and stuff to burn. I personally don't get the apparent phasing out of this sort of thing. Commercial blu-rays are still available, albeit probably not as much as they used to be. If there was some way of creating a similar movie structure, complete with menus/chapters but on, say, flash drives, which could be plugged into blu-ray players and/or smart TVs for playback with menu access, I'd consider that route, since the price of those has really dropped a lot. Anyway, thanks a lot for your help/advice.
  16. I just priced DataLife Plus BD-R DL the other day as I was curious. From Amazon.com, they work out to $2.78 US per disc for 25 of them. Actually, I'm not that surprised no one else has chimed in on this thread. Optical disc burning is pretty much mostly a dead end right now. It's a niche market at best.
  17. I've been procrastinating a lot but finally just got around to burning the last of my (batch of five) Verbatim blue/white BD-R DL 50GB discs. This time I set the burn speed to 6x (which is what's printed on the disc cases) instead of the 4x I had tried last time it failed. I was a little surprised to get a successful burn this time! (Interestingly, ImgBurn reported that acceptable burn speeds for this type of media was 2x - 8x, but I just went with what was on the case, i.e. 6x). So out of my initial batch of 5 discs I've had a 60% failure rate... pretty dismal... so I won't be buying these again. Your (positive) experience with the DataLife Plus discs got me checking amazon.ca again. A 25-spindle of the DataLife Plus BD-R DL is now showing at CAD$113.99 (with a 5% discount) which works out to $4.56 each. However, the crap I bought (Verbatim blue/white) is now showing at CAD$57.56 for 5, which works out to $11.51 each, which, obviously, is insane in comparison. Now I just need to convince my wife that spending $113.99 is a great idea. 🤣 https://www.amazon.ca/Verbatim-DataLifePlus-White-Inkjet-Printable/dp/B004HA8IQC/ref=sr_1_4?crid=2GP80CXXNE1SC&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.eAjMC61Mcdb7Y_h0dB7FqR9WHZMVzNbYjSfuNSUP5B8G2f9Qqu7_GjVr10BR1Bg_KSiEhUgyFqeFV1XLu1siWwJOBaS7ZkC_c5cIDKEu9W9p_3Z5yEcevXMMZxqMjSEXPh_QHeTHmx5f7kuvd6zof_-VK2ngHN0XJPXdkuwwpJymDtSrZP59Dw95LXofwvcJm8_LK5n-gItkP0SV9VJ3bSeyXqUvwv6YXEfDLKmjqsMHrtMj_WZKjswZ0_TryFRHexH81I4lJt21xJ18lW6eJ4MwrYYgw8dBNhxH8f8QtyKwaZSiFh4LmQgxbOPrXmRITUOWps_CxWMTvBX5rKen3r5wO8k11TCSPRoVeITiruCDm8WmsCKKoOOWGW0YN-7fO5TAttfqfrsgfPEGAkxzzNOm3MNRscG4sPMDik--lV26cghMsnCPLDzy2EMa94XP.4_7S-AS9tVCKbhk5i1GyuZOxxiEJZtXhHvCwRLryyzw&dib_tag=se&keywords=verbatim%2Bbd-r%2Bdl&qid=1742410092&sprefix=verbatim%2Bbd-r%2Bdl%2Caps%2C128&sr=8-4&th=1 I'm surprised I haven't seen posts by other people on their experiences with BD-R DL media... I can't be the only one using them!

  19. Oh, yeah, I didn't think of it in that way. If you have a DVD+R and you want to "convert" it to DVD-R, you can't physically transmute the DVD+R to DVD-R, but you can copy the DVD+R's contents to a DVD-R. Just insert the DVD+R into a drive, use ImgBurn's Read mode to read the DVD+R to an image file, and then use ImgBurn's Write mode to burn that image read in Read mode to a DVD-R.
  20. I figured it might be used to drag and drop files into Build mode. Never thought it might also add the files to Write mode's queue.
  21. Assuming you're talking about the physical discs themselves. It's like turning an apple into a banana. If, however, you have something burnt to a DVD+R that you want to burn to a DVD-R, that's something totally different.
  22. A place to drop stuff. It's a little window that's meant to stay on top of other windows (when the program's main window doesn't), so you can drag+drop to it. That in turn is then supposed to add dropped files to the queue (if in Write mode) or source box (if in Build mode).
  23. Here's your most probable cause: I 13:31:18 Destination Media Type: CD-R (Disc ID: 97m26s66f, CMC Magnetics Corp.) You're probably using the Life Series Verbatim you find in brick and mortar stores. Those are the CMC garbage. CMC Magnetics Corporation makes the worst optical media out there. Unfortunately, they also OWN Verbatim. However, luckily enough, Verbatim does offer a higher quality CD-R and those are the ones you should be using. Look for the DataLife Plus series (NOT Life Series.) aka AZO discs, which you can generally only find in online stores. Those are some of the best out there, as they're actually made by Mitsubishi. Keep in mind, this is not a 100% guaranteed fix, but it is where I'd start first. I don't know why you included a log portion referencing BD-R operations, though...
  24. trying my best to burn some dreamcast games onto a verbatim CD-R. using a 700 mb and downloading a 650 mb game. keep getting this error message, ive tried everything i can think of so far including using a new kind of disc, but all the research has said either it's the disc (recommending the disc im using) or the burner, and ive used this burner successfully a few times. anyways, here's the error log, the main thing is that it keeps stopping and saying Invalid Address for Write. 25. Question as is in the Title. Thanks!
  26. CMC has a track record of changing manufacturing processes and borking discs. At one point, DataLife Plus DVD-R from Verbatim stopped working with the LG WH16NS60. The solution was to stop using them and switch to CMC Pro discs. Yes, even something with CMC in its name CAN be high quality because CMC Pro discs are not made by CMC. CMC Pro discs are made by Taiyo Yuden, which was the other high quality manufacturer of optical media along with Mitsubishi. CMC Magnetics then bought out TY like they did with Verbatim. Eventually, a firmware update to the NS60 fixed the issue, just reinforcing CMC changed the manufacturing process of the DataLife Plus DVD-R as only a firmware update for the NS60 fixed it. As for tests over time, I went through hundreds of BD-R's burned more than 5 years old over the past few years. All of those were the old Verbatim blue and white branded surface discs burned by ImgBurn in an LG WH16NS60. Every single one I burned still had totally readable contents after 5 years since burn. They were put in one of those CD carrying cases that hold like 320 discs and just stored in the corner of the room where I keep the PC in.
