neozbr Posted April 26, 2021 Posted April 26, 2021 asus drw-24f1mt only 8x and 16x speed to select, I need to burn at 4x or else is getting errors, is there any other way to modify the firmware to burn slowly ? I can't find the firmware for asus drw-24f1mt in anywhere! I've tried 3 brands already and got errors because the only speed to burn is 8x or 16x and this is too fast! is there any way to modify this ? even If I have to modify the firmware in this case, my priority is to burn at 4x no matter what, I've tried many softwares but this doesn't matter the only speeds avaialble are 8x and 16x, is there any possible solution for this ? thanks.
LIGHTNING UK! Posted April 26, 2021 Posted April 26, 2021 You shouldn't be having problems if you're using good discs. If the drive can't burn at 8x on MCC / MKM dye media, you should probably replace the drive. What you're asking for would indeed require modified firmware. I don't suppose anyone modifies firmware these days, but you could ask over at the MyCE forums. https://club.myce.com/ If you can't find any mention of your drive anywhere, you'd probably need to provide the firmware binary by reading from your drive (with the correct tools).
Cynthia Posted May 23, 2021 Posted May 23, 2021 I have pretty much the same burner. Mine is the ASUS DRW-24D5MT and the difference is the lack of attached software, like Nero. A very cheap burner (around 14 Euro) and that actually works very well when burning Verbatims at 8x and book types automatically. Never liked Asus before. But today there is pretty much nothing to choose between on the market. I 01:51:48 Destination Device: [2:0:0] ASUS DRW-24D5MT 2.00 (I:) (SATA) I 01:51:48 Destination Media Type: DVD+R (Disc ID: MCC-004-00) I 01:51:48 Destination Media Supported Write Speeds: 8x; 16x; 24x
blask Posted June 23 Posted June 23 (edited) Bit late to this thread, sorry. The only way to burn DVDs at speed lower than 8x nowadays is to use an external slim burner. Yes, I know the rule is that external drives are worse than the internal ones and the slim ones are even worse. But in my own experience in the last several years the quality of the new internal drives has declined rapidly, probably due to manufacturers cost savings. At least where I live - south-eastern part of EU - right now there are only 3 internal models available - LiteOn, LG and the aforementioned Asus drw-24f1mt. I own the Lg and the Asus and they both look and feel very cheap (and they are cheap - 15 and 24 EUR respectively). Both are not great in burning DVDs, although Asus performs better, but again both are very far from the quality of the burners produced let's say 15 years ago. But the burner that gives even better results is an external Transcend slim drive. Probably because it can write at 4x. Anyways, sorry for the offtopic, just wanted to share my experience. DeVinySlet Posted Thursday at 07:02 AM Posted Thursday at 07:02 AM Damn, now I am happy I got some old ones haha. If want really internal drives, going on the second hand market wouldn't be the worse idea. You might have to buy a whole system for the price of a pack of camels (depending on where you live of course, Belgium over here 19 euros for 35 sigs 🤣😅😥),but I imagine when you buy a whole system (running windows xp, with the yellow plastic but with 2 burners inside, why not take the gamble) people just want to throw away that stuff usually. Blask what external drives do you use? I ofcourse bought a cheap chinese one, with the expected results
blask Posted Saturday at 05:10 PM Posted Saturday at 05:10 PM (edited) I've tested several external drives, and the results show that different Lite-on models are better than other brands for burning CDRs and so far the best for burning DVDs is Transcend TS8XDVDS-W/K (The last letter W or K indicates the color of the drive white or black) TS8XDVDS is also the only one manufactured in Taiwan instead of China, from what I have seen so far. dbminter Posted Saturday at 05:27 PM Posted Saturday at 05:27 PM Lite-On made some of the best DVD burners I've ever had. So, I tried their BD burner when it came out. Utter disaster. I never used a Lite-On BD drive again and I don't think they make BD drives anymore.

I was talking about external DVD burners, not BD. Edited Saturday at 06:30 PM by blask
