  1. I know Lite-Ons had a persistent problem with adding random pauses into DVD+R DL playback when it burned discs. They weren't layer breaks. However, if you've never encountered this before, it's most likely not the cause. It's the reason I stopped buying LiteOns. Every LiteOn DVD burner and the Blu-Ray burner I had did that. In fact, their awful Blu-Ray burner did it on 2 out of 3 DVD+R DL's I burned. And now, LiteOn no longer makes Blu-Ray drives, I think. Probably because they were junk. Mine stopped writing BD-RE's after 3 months.
  2. Some older players won't play the DVD properly at the layer break without a pause. The only reason you might want to not select seamless layer break is if you've tried it and an older player doesn't play the disc properly trying to switch at the layer break. In my entire DVD collection, I only had 1 disc that was manufactured without a seamless layer break. Doctor Who: The Five Doctors Special Edition R1 which was released in 2001. It's also the only Who DVD I have that has a non seamless layer break. It was also the first Who DVD released so it was probably given a non seamless layer break for older players since DVD's were only introduced about 5 years before, I believe.
  3. Yes, I've noticed the majority of my failed DL burns occur at the layer change. Or shortly after the 2nd layer starts burning.
  4. Comodo STILL doesn't work! I installed the latest version, tried all settings, tested both ImgBurn's Check for updates and Firefox's attempts to access the Internet and Comodo NEVER asked for permission to let these applications access the Internet. I need a firewall that will block incoming intrusions but also ask me to allow or deny applications from accessing the Internet. And Comodo NEVER has been that application and never will be.
  5. Sorry, I've never used BurnerMAX. Couldn't tell you. I think it has something to do with overburning, but I'm not sure. And that I think it has something to do with XBox copies. I've never owned an XBox product so I can't help. In fact, my only experience with overburning discs has been never to do it. I've only gotten it to work once, on an audio CD. Every other time I tried to do it, it failed.
  6. As I said, be sure you look for DataLife Plus. Any other Verbatim DVD+R DL and you run the risk of it not being quality MKM media. It's a good idea to switch anyway. Cheap media may burn and verify but after a year or so, it probably won't be readable. I've yet to have a Verbatim MKM DVD+R DL fail to read after burning after about 6 years of using them. Now, I will say I had good results with TDK DVD+R DL media. They were all still readable after 5 years. Of course, I also came across a CMC DVD+R DL that I somehow let slip past that was still readable after 5 years! And then I had some Ritek Office Depot DVD+R DL that were 50% not readable after 5 years, despite 10 years of using their DVD-R, DVD+RW, DVD-RW, CD-R, and CD-RW without any failures to read years later. Anyway, the take away from this is we always recommend Verbatim MKM DVD+R DL media. They're the best. The majority of people who report DVD+R DL burning problems find their issues go away when they switch from cheap media to Verbatim MKM. However, I am concerned that you said you had gotten it to work before in the past by disabling background application. That indicates to me the issue isn't media and that even if you switched to Verbatim MKM media, you'd still encounter the problem. But, I'd still recommend switching just for the sake of longevity.
  7. Yeah, you won't find the good quality Verbatim DVD+R DL in a brick and mortar store. What you will find in a physical store is the cheap CMC media Verbatim also farms out. You'll have to look online for DataLife Plus. As for your follow up, so, you say you closed all background applications and set ImgBurn's priority to high and the problem went away? Next, I'd try closing all background applications but leaving ImgBurn's priority to its default and try the burn again. That way you can narrow it down to it being a background application causing the problem. If it only works when you set the priority to high, I couldn't tell you why it works that way and doesn't work the other way. It's most likely a background application, though. I'd start with your anti-virus/anti-malware software. Try disabling only it/them and retry another burn
  8. Well, my obvious question is: you say you're using a cheap media, but have you tried using a quality Verbatim DataLife Plus series MKM DVD+R DL?
  9. For anyone who questions why we recommend Verbatim MCC DVD media for burning, let me put some results into perspective. Out of all the Verbatim MCC DVD-R's I've burned since 2008, I've only come across 1 that wasn't readable after it burned and verified in 2009. The rest were still readable. That probably translates into a failure rate of 1% or less!
  10. The market is already doing that for BD-RE. Verbatim used to make their own quality BD-RE. Then they went cheap and now only release CMC BD-RE. So, I don't buy them. Unfortunately, everyone else but Maxell and Panasonic make BD-RE that are CMC. Maxell, though, are not an option because although they're rated for 2x, they only write at 0.9x! Panasonic may not be an option (I haven't tried them yet.) because Panasonic MADE the Maxell BD-RE's! TDK and JVC/Victor BD-RE's were CMC's. And with Taiyo Yuden exiting the optical disc market, there's now only 1 option, Verbatim DataLife Plus media, for quality CD-R and DVD+/-R. As for what you can do with that 10 pack, you can just keep trying to burn each one. Otherwise, your options are to throw them away or get a new burner and see if it's your burner. However, trying Verbatim MKM would probably be cheaper than replacing your drive to see if the problem goes away. If you replaced the drive and the problem is still there, then you've spent more money on replacing the drive when the issue might still be the media, which would be cheaper to replace. Or the problem might be beyond the media and the drive.
  11. That's the nature of the beast with CMC. 50% of the time, a burn won't complete. If it does complete, 50% of the time, the burn won't complete Verify. If Verify completes, you have a 50% chance of the disc you insert into a DVD player not being readable by the player. And you can get some discs that work in a spindle and some you don't. When I learned of the nature of CMC, I had a 200 cakestack of Optodisc DVD-R in 2003. Optodisc used to make their own discs which were good and then they switched to CMC. When they switched, half of those 200 wouldn't complete a write in my Panasonic DVD recorder. The recorder returned a U11 error. And, some burners don't even have a problem with CMC. The problem with CMC is their level of consistency with their quality. I'd trust a CMC disc about as far as I can throw their corporate headquarters.
  12. If I had to make a guess based on your log, I'd blame the cheap CMC media. I 09:45:03 Destination Media Type: DVD+R DL (Disc ID: CMC MAG-D03-64) CMC MAG is CMC Magnetics, the worst manufacturer of optical disc media out there. If you're going to use DVD+R DL, the only real choice is to go with Verbatim MKM discs. However, you generally can't find them in a brick and mortar store. Even Verbatim from a BAM store will be their cheap brand, which is, yes, you guessed, made by CMC. You pretty much can only find them online if you look for the Verbatim DataLife Plus brand of DVD+R DL. A vast majority of people who report problems burning DVD+R DL find if they switch from something other than Verbatim MKM media to Verbatim MKM media, their burning problems go away.
  13. I tried using 7-Zip to extract the installer but that didn't work. So, I just fell back to my go to default step: just turning off the cable modem. It's part of my install steps for Freemake full software installers, too. So, OpenCandy can't phone home for crapware installation requests. Of course, under Windows 10, there is a slight difference. It takes longer for the executable to actually start after failing to phone home.
  14. I encountered a problem updating Windows 8.1 Update 1 to Windows 10. So, I'm passing along how I fixed it in case you encounter it. What happened to me was Windows Update detected Service Release 1 but never downloaded it! It was always stuck at 0%. Seems downloads getting stuck at X% was common on the Preview Builds of Windows 10. So, here's how I fixed it. CTRL+ALT+DEL and select Task Manager. Select More details if you don't see a Services tab. Under Services, sort the Services names in alphabetical order because it's defaulted to some kind of random order. Idiots! Find BITS, highlight it, right click it, and select Stop. Repeat for wuauserv, the Windows Update Service. Open C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution in File Explorer. Delete all files and folders found there. You may be prompted for permissions to delete them. Just select them. If you can't delete certain items, restart Windows, repeat the stopping of the 2 services from before, and try deleting the files again. After the files and folders are deleted, restart Windows. When Windows restarts, you may get a message saying Windows is preparing updates. Wait for about 5 minutes and if nothing else happens, just power off the PC. When powered back on, it will probably say again that Windows is preparing updates, but this message shouldn't last infinitely like it was before. When Windows restarts, reopen Windows Update and you should see the updates start downloading now. That's how I fixed it, anyway. Running System File Checker, which worked to fix all Windows Update problems under Windows 8.1 Update 1, did nothing to fix this issue.
  15. I've got a weird sort of error when a certain copying action is attempted. If I inserted a rewritable DVD, even if it isn't formatted with Windows/File Explorer as a dynamic disc, i.e. a burned, closed track disc with ImgBurn, Windows shows there's a desktop.ini to be copied from the disc at the bottom of the file list of contents in the root directory. Now, this is typical behavior since I have the option to hide hidden and system files disabled. However, I get an error message if I Select All files. Select All also selects the desktop.ini file. If I don't manually unselect desktop.ini when I copy, I get an error message trying to copy the rest of the files other than desktop.ini. desktop.ini shows up in the target folder of the copy operation but none of the other files do since the copy operation abends with the error code 0x80004005. This doesn't happen on WORM DVD's because there's no Windows idiotic default desktop.ini waiting to be written to them because the disc is not writable. Only on rewritable DVD's and only if I don't remember to not select desktop.ini from the bottom of the file list. Is there something I can do to "fix" this? I will NOT reset the option to hide system and hidden files so don't suggest that. And don't just say don't select desktop.ini; I already know that! Plus, why should I HAVE to do this when this is Microsoft's fault?

Try powering off the PC, wait a minute, and restart. See if that helps. Sometimes drives need a power cycle. If the drive is external, just power it off for a minute and power it back on. No need to restart. If it's external and powering off doesn't work, then try restarting Windows. Sometimes Windows need a cycle to clear out crap that randomly interferes with itself.
  17. In Windows 8.1 Update 1, I had buttons for Cut, Paste, etc. arranged together on the right side of the Ribbon in File Explorer. After updating to Windows 10, they're gone. Is there a way I can get these back? I forgot what I did to make them appear before in Windows 8.1, but I used them all the time. I'd really like to have them back but Microsoft most likely got rid of them, of course.
  18. Doesn't matter the name on the package. What matters is the MID/DID field. It says CMC. CMC Magnetics is the worst manufacturer of optical media out there. Most of the errors we see on this board are caused by cheap junk media like CMC. And, with DVD+R DL, most DVD+R DL error issues disappear when people switch to Verbatim's DVD+R DL that you don't buy in a store because those are CMC's. You'll want the MKM media. For DVD+R DL, the only reliable ones are Verbatim MKM's.
  19. Also, don't use CMC DVD+R DL media. Verbatim is the only way to go. I'd first blame the log errors on the use of CMC media.
  20. Yeah, I was going to reply that I don't recognize that MID/DID and I'd be suspect that it might be a cheap brand disc. Plus, Verbatim DVD+R DL's are the best way to go for DVD+R DL. I've only ever used TDK and Office Depot Ritek along with Verbatim DVD+R DL. The TDK's were still all readable after about 5 years. The Riteks were 50/50; half were unreadable. Funny thing is I came across a CMC DVD+R DL that somehow slipped past my guard and it was still readable after five years, amazingly enough! The bottom of the barrel CMC was still readable but generally decent Ritek DVD media was not the case with their DVD+R DL.
  21. Playlists are dependent on the software you're using to play the sound files. So, it's different for whatever player you're using. The only playlists I've ever made are with WinAmp. You can save these playlists to the hard drive but you're dependent on those files still being around on your HD for you to load them and play them.
  22. One thing I forgot. Use 01 and 02, etc. Because 10, 11, etc. might be sorted after 1. Then 20, 21, etc. might be sorted after 2. Yes, it's idiotic but it may be programmed that way.
  23. How about appending a 1 - and 2 - etc. to the beginning of the file names? If you don't mind that additional text, the sorting will be based starting with the 1 and 2 at the beginning.
  24. Did you actually Build the image first? Write image file to disc requires the image file be built first by Build or an existing image file from a Read. If you did Build the image files and tried to Write that image and still get device not ready, well, make sure you have a disc inserted in your burner first. If you still get a device not ready/media not present message, try shutting down Windows, powering off your computer, leave it powered off for say a minute (If your burner is an external one, shut off its power for a minute and power it back on.) Restart Windows and try again.
