  1. I tried EaseUs and don't recommend it. My main problem, if memory serves me correctly, was there was no way to check on the status of a running backup. There may not have even been a way to easily check and see if a backup ran successfully, but, I don't know that for sure. I use Macrium paid. The paid version has a "Windows PE" bootable solution, which I use over the Linux. The Linux disc only restores, where as the Windows PE version lets you make backups, too, in its environment. Plus, the 5.0 Linux disc doesn't appear to work. I tried it on 2 different PC's and the restores just there, doing nothing, where I tried running them. As for the size of the ISO, the only limits would be the maximum file size supported by the disk's file system. Plus, if you're ever going to burn the image to a disc, you'll have to take into account whatever Blu-Ray disc would support it, which I know nothing about the sizes of BR discs.
  2. I was thinking the same thing about the CMC's. If you got past the semaphore timeout error (Which many drives just won't work with ImgBurn because of their chipsets.) which you did, I'd dump the cheap CMC's and go with Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden discs and see if the problem goes away.

    Earthquake

You probably didn't feel it at ground level. Here, I didn't feel it, but on floors other than the ground at the hospital, they felt it. Same story in Indiana. If you were at ground level, you most likely didn't feel it, is what they reported on the Evasnville local news.

    Earthquake

Yeah, the East Coast is not known for its earthquakes. This quake actually struck in Virginia, but was felt in KY, Ohio, Illinois, New York, Washington DC, and even in Toronto!

    Earthquake

About that 5.9 magnitude earthquake that hit the East Coast of the United States. It was even felt here where I live in Kentucky. While I didn't feel it where I live, elsewhere in town, my mother felt it where she worked at a hospital. It's been about 10 years since I last felt an earthquake here, but, I remember it vividly. I was sitting in front of my computer and suddenly, I wasn't sitting in front of it anymore! I have an office chair with wheels on it and the shaking moved by chair and turned me away from the screen. I thought, at first, someone had sneaked into the room and turned me around. I started immediately complaining to what turned out to be no one in particular. That's when I later learned it had actually been an earthquake. Kentucky is near a fault line and, for decades, they've been saying a major quake could occur at any time.
  6. The only USB drive I've ever had that worked right was an old Sony one. So, going with an Optiarc and getting an external enclosure is a good way to go as Sony and Optiarc are basically the same thing now. The Sony USB external I have does not have the semaphore timeout issue with its chipset.
  7. Memorex mixes the quality of their media. Sometimes, you get a good manufacturer like MKM on DVD+R or MKM on Ultra Speed CD-RW. One of the reasons I was willing to give their CD-R's a try was because they have a quality Ultra CD-RW. Same with my mother's. It's a combo device. I remember a Sony one I took back because its DVD player wouldn't even recognize Sony DVD-R's! Only reason I have a Blu-Ray player is I needed to replace my PS2 DVD player and the slim PS2's are terrible at playing recordable DVD's. So, I got a PS3. But, I don't own any Blu-Ray movies or have a Blu-Ray burner. I'd also like to have a Blu-Ray burner. Backups of Windows are now so large that it takes 4 DVD's to make a single backup!
  8. Not only that, but, there is no decent Lightscribe media at all! Taiyo Yuden doesn't make Lightscribe CD-R's, as far as I know, yet. I wish they'd make one as it's probably the only good quality one that would ever show up as HP and Memorex both use CMC for their Lightscribes. Memorex also uses CMC in their Lightscribe DVD-R's. I got some to test my Lightscribe drive for the first time, so, I only needed them as junkers. I tried burning a temporary DVD to one for my mother to play something she wanted and to my surprise the burn finished. But, NOT to my surprise, the disc failed to even be recognized as a DVD by her player.
  9. I would still like to see a log. We'd need a log, anyway, to continue diagnosing the problem. I'd still consider checking the MID. They might have switched to CMC from a previous dye. I had a problem like that years ago. Wasted hundreds of dollars in discs before a similar forum pointed me to the fact of CMC. That was back when DVD-R's cost many dollars. Do you have one of these Imation DVD+R DL's that you know burned successfully? If so, you could insert it and open the media in in ImgBurn to get the MID. If they ID's are the same, then, considering you had no problem with CMC and are willing to stick with CMC, then, I would say your drive is causing the problem. The Verfiy does NOT complete, right? You get that Layouts message and the Verify won't complete? I don't know anything about Layout errors, so, LUK will probably have to take it from here. He will need a log, though.
  10. Please post a log. Particularly, the part of the log that says the Manufacturer ID of those Imation DVD+R DL's. I don't use Imation because they use CMC Magnetics Corporation dyes on their discs and CMC is the worst brand you can get. I'd think to look and see if they're CMC discs that are causing the problem with Verify errors. Have you gotten verify errors before with these Imation brand DVD+R DL's?
  11. I discover these things myself so you don't have to! Memorex Lightscribe CD-R's use CMC Magnetics Corporation dyes on them! Just like HP does!

    Which DVD-RW?

I have used the 7260 for a few months now. No problems with it. Past Optiarc had Verfiy issues with Ritek DVD+RW 8x discs, but, not the 7260. As for XBox backups, I'm afraid we can't help with things like that. I certainly can't say if the 7260 would work for that as I don't have an XBox.
  13. I currently use the Optiarc listed in the first post. I've had it for several months now. I've used Optiarc for years. The only problem I ever had with them in the past was that they did not like Ritek 8x DVD+RW discs. They would burn but Verifies would never start. However, the 7260 does not have that problem.
  14. Hm. I went over your log twice before posting and I failed to notice that part at the end both times.
  15. Also, what exactly was your problem? The log doesn't seem to show any problem that I can see. You said something about an L-EC uncorrectable error or something like that?
  16. Notice the line that says I 08:20:57 Media Type: DVD+RW (Disc ID: CMC MAG-W02-00) (Speeds: 4x) As I said, Memorex sometimes uses CMC Magentics dyes in their media. I wouldn't trust CMC media as far as I could throw a CMC processing plant! Get some Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden discs and see if your problem goes away.
  17. Yes, I'd like to see the log to see what the Manufacturer ID of the discs is. You say Memorex, which is known to use cheap CMC media for some of their products. But, some of their discs use Verbatim/MCC dyes. I think DVD+R is one of their good products so the DVD+RW may be good, too. Still need the log, though, to determine anything.
  18. Had to restore all the way back to Friday to get it working again!
  19. Didn't work. Worked temporarily. Then, it immediately reset itself back to the no icon icon. This is not just on webpages, but also the folder icon for folders shortcuts stopped working, replaced by the no icon icon.
  20. I tried that, but, I don't think I rebooted afterwards. Let me try that.
  21. My icons for shortcuts to web pages in Windows Explorer has disappeared. Web page shortcuts on the Desktop have the proper icon, but not in folders in Windows Explorer. They display the default "no icon" icon. Refresh TRIES to get them to appear as they show up briefly, but, then immediately return to the no icon icon. I've tried changing the icons for individual shortcuts, but, they don't change. Any ideas?
  22. Of course, after I say that, I come across the very first time I needed to write a dump file and there was only 500 MB for a 600 MB dump.
  23. You are right in that you don't have to have a swapfile on the Windows drive. You can use Windows just fine without it. You may not be able to write Windows dump logs, though. So, I enable it because I may need such a log someday. I've never had to yet, though.
  24. I tried to do that, but, my attempts to repeat the garbage text never returned garbage text. It HAD been working that it would alternate between CD Text and garbage text with alternating uses of the context menu entry for Read CD Text. I couldn't get a screenshot like he wanted for that reason. The best I could do was copy and paste the garbage text file name that I posted here earlier.
  25. Well, as it turned out, apparently I made the mistake! It seems I made a typo and typed Cd Text instead of CD Text into one of the fields. Once I tested it again with a disc that I made SURE had the correct CD Text, the plugin returned the correct CD Text. That still doesn't explain away why sometimes the plugin returns garbage text.
