  1. Found another use! While I don't trust these discs to last for any extended length of time after burning, they're good for some temporary backups to discs since I've run out of DVD-R and DVD+R DL. They can temporarily store the contents I will put to DVD-R or DVD+R DL when the order for them I placed today arrives in about a week. Even CMC SHOULD last for just a week!
  2. I want to soon try some Verbatim MKM DVD+R DL's that have LightScribe on them. The Amazon.com reviews say that some LiteOn drives won't write to the LightScribe side of those discs. Of course, my LightScribe capable drive is a LiteOn. But, if the LightScribe doesn't work, I can still use them if they're MKM and not something like CMC.
  3. Cheap CMC SHIT! My mother's DVD player didn't even recognize either of the 2 discs or would return an "error" message to check for scratches and stains on the discs.
  4. Found another use for these CMC Memorex DVD+R discs. My mother wanted to see some stuff on DVD to watch later. So, I shrunk down the contents to fit to a DVD-5 and used these CMC discs. They should be used and then discarded relatively quickly enough that they should still be readable. They may playback with skips, though. If that's the case, I can just move the contents to rewritable DVD's.
  5. Well, my Best Buy only has HP drives. They're okay. HP is on my enemies list for a lot of their past computers, cameras, and DVD burners. Their ink and printers are about the only recommendations I can make for them. I'd recommend two things. See if you can find a Sony/Optiarc drive or one particular LiteOn drive, the IHAS 324. Sony doesn't make USB drives anymore except for slims, as far as I know, and slims on USB's are NOT the way to go. So, look for Optiarc, I'd say. LiteOn, there's lots of options but try and find a genuin IHAS 324, not a rebrand, like NewEgg has here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827106334 Here's the last Optiarc I got: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827118039 There's a later version with LightScirbe, but, it costs more, and it's sold out at NewEgg, so, who cares?! Hope any of my input helps.

    how

The size of the files will depend, of course, on how large the AVI itself is. This will mean how long it is and what compression method was used to make it. I use ConvertXToDVD, a non-free application, to convert such files. The resulting DVD VOB files can be very small, but, as I said, the size depends on the conditions listed above.
  7. My main problem with CMC is, well, burning completely. But, I am also worried about how well they'll read in the future. I just don't trust CMC as far as I can throw their factories.
  8. Forgot Roxio's Label Creator can print LightScribe. I tried it out and got the desired result of not having one of its two fields being too dark. EDIT: Figured out a way around the problems I had previously said.
  9. I don't need to make the burn darker. My problem is one field is already too dark! As for copying and duplicating fields, I tried that in Nero 10 CoverDesiger, and it still printed the field too dark on the disk. I don't know what the issue is, but, it must be Nero's fault.
  10. I used Best, I remember that. Don't remember if there was an option for Enchanced contrast. I just used the options that were selected in Nero 10's CoverDesigner, as I believe it's the only thing I had available for burning Lightscribe. Actually, my unimpressed results were for one field I could not change the outcome of it. It always looked the same, even though the Font was the same as the other field in the form. It burned too thick and wasn't that legible when compared to the other field.
  11. Shrink will "remove" streams of video but can only replace them with a screen saying the content was removed or a screen of one solid color. I believe what is left is the same length as what you wanted to remove, but, I am not entirely sure of that. If you want to totally remove things like trailers, you'd need something like DVDReMake or VOBBlanker. Remake is not free software and VOBBlanker is not entirely user friendly for newbies, so, you've got a few options.
  12. I amazingly found a use for Memorex DVD+R's! I've had a Lightscribe burner in this PC for 2 years now, in May, and had never used that function before. So, I wanted to test it and see what kind of results I could get. I found some Memorex DVD+R at Staples that were half off. So, I got 20 test discs for $10. The discs themselves are the usual worthless Memorex CMC crap, but, the Lightscribe side of the discs actually worked fine. Wasn't all that impressed with the results, though. So, it is possible to find uses for Memorex media.
  13. Use ImgBurn's Build mode. Insert the disc you made an image of, as the image won't be much good without other programs to inject files into it (Like UltraISO.). Drag and drop the VIDEO_TS folder from the disc into the Build mode's pane. Repeat for any DVD-ROM folder contents that you want to add to the DVD. Having the VIDEO_TS folder in the job makes ImgBurn automatically set the necessary options needed to make a DVD-Video compliant disc. Check out this guide http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?showtopic=1779 for more detailed information on using Build mode.
  14. BTW, in the subject, you did mean DVD+RW right? Not DVD+RM. As far as I know, the only thing close to a DVD+RM would be a DVD to RM (Real Media, I am guessing.) convertor.
  15. Since there isn't a Mac version of ImgBurn, or no way to emulate it in a Mac OS, as far as I know I doubt the format would ever be incorporated into the program.
  16. Yes, you'll need something other than DVD+R disc. I'm still worried why your drive returned it as a DVD+RW, though.
  17. The Roxio part and the drag files to this folder part makes me think you have Roxio's DragToDisc active. That could interfering with how the drive is reported. Because it keeps seeming to me to be that the drive is returning the wrong media information. Either what you have is a DVD+R or a DVD+RW that is not returning the write media format. Do you have another burner you can put the disc into and see what it returns?
  18. You might want to try these: http://vu1tur.eu.org/tools/ I've never used them before, so, I can't say. I just looked around with a Google search to see what I could come up with. Here was where I found that info, if it helps: http://filext.com/file-extension/DMG
  19. Well, there seems to be more going on that what's on the surface. Your drive is apparently returning that disc as a DVD+RW, but, I Googled to make sure and that Manufacturer ID, RITEK-F16-01, is DVD+R media. Which means you can't erase it. It's either blank or already has data on it. If it had data on it, there's no way to write to it.
  20. Yeah, I would use a rewritable Blu-Ray disc if I had them, a burner, and a player. I tried burning a DVD that was small enough to a CD-R, but, none of my players would read it as a DVD. It's almost as if the players can determine the maximum size of a disc being inserted and make assumptions based on that.
  21. I don't own a Blu-Ray burner or a Blu-Ray player to test this, so, I'm only left with the option of asking and see if anyone knows. I was wondering if it was possible to burn a DVD-Video compliant VIDEO_TS folder to a Blu-Ray disc and have it play as a DVD in a Blu-Ray player?

    Rewritable DL?

I remembering reading years ago about DL rewritable media. I believe DVDInfo Pro even at one time (Maybe it still does.) would detect if your drive had DVD+-RW DL capabilities. But, I've yet to see a drive or discs appear. Did this never materialize? Is it because of competing, larger media like Blu-Ray and, at the time, HD DVD?
  23. Also, the broad answer is no because ImgBurn can only create images of discs. There's no File extract or IFO extract.
  24. The best part was the cake! Got my favorite. It's a local store's creation called Death By Chocolate. It's two layers of chocolate cake separated by a layer of Twinkee filling and topped with chocolate icing.
