  1. Well, the manufacturer field says Taiyo Yuden, which genuine TY's do. But, of course, that field can always be faked since it's just a simple field where they can put any text they desire. So, I guess I'm not much help. But, my Taiyo Yuden CD-R's say that and they appear to be good. Well, they finish burning and they do play back, anyway. I personally felt the sting of Verbatim CD-R's. They are CMC Magnetics, the bottom of the barrel stuff. I felt personally betrayed. They make such good DVD-R and DVD+R DL media, I just thought they'd make good CD-R's, too. Epic FAIL! So, I returned them.
  2. No, he never said why and I didn't ask. NewEgg had those Canons I saw for about $50 or $60. I got my Visioneer for real cheap off the regular price because the store was trying to get rid of inventory and gave them away, basically, for a steal when buying a digital camera, which I needed.
  3. I'll keep that in mind. I'm currently waiting on an HP model that Office Depot had, but, it wasn't in stock and had to be sent in from another store. They told me I could take the floor model and I told them to take a hike. I saw a Canon scanner at Staples. Interestingly, the guy on the floor said not waste my time with the Canon and recommended an Epson instead. I also saw some Canon scanners at NewEgg, which is where I check for certain electronics first.
  4. I was going to suggest he try 2.5.2.0, but, he already said he had the latest version. So, I took him at his word and didn't tell him.
  5. I know there was a previous issue with getting stuck at analyzing tracks, but, I thought that was during the read portion, not the Verify. LUK is looking into some new reports of the analyzing tracks problem that had been reported before but were apparently showing up again in someone else's post. So, I'd say wait for the next version. Or until LUK replies to my post to tell me, if I'm totally pants on this subject and/or tell you more about it.
  6. I like VueScan. It serves my needs. Not as well as the old scanner software with my Visioneer did, but, better than a freebie utility I found called FreeKapture. I think I'll still get a new scanner regardless. Right now, I'm using an all in one multifunction printer/copier/scanner that my mother got for $30 on a sale. It's the Epson Stylus NX125. I'm using it in the meantime, but don't want to use it as my scanner because it has a ghosting problem. It adds a line down the middle of scanned images that is not there.
  7. That's what it was. Something to do with RAW mode and/or subchannels.
  8. Actually, I came across VueScan in my Googling for software. I was thinking about it because I use VuePrint as my main graphics format image viewer, and I believe VueScan is made by the same people. I'll see if VueScan has a trial. Thanks!
  9. It's because, I think, ImgBurn does not support the format/way that PS1 game discs are in. They're either multi-session or the audio is in a separate track from the game itself, I forget what it was. But, I believe I came across the same problem. As you said, CloneCD works for PS1 games, I do remember that, as does Alcohol 120%. Bottom line, as I said, I believe ImgBurn won't be able to do what you're looking for in its current form, I'm afraid.
  10. Maybe I'm missing something here, but, it seems to me the easiest way around this rather unique problem is to point DVDShrink to the extracted contents folder. Shrink should then be able to pick out what to keep and what duplicates not to keep. Then, just Shrink to a VIDEO_TS folder with no compression and load that VIDEO_TS into ImgBurn's Build mode to see how the layer break goes.
  11. I need some recommendations for a new scanner or a decent scanner software. This part is important because I need one thing in particular in my scanner software that appears now to be no longer a concern in the software developers' minds who make the scanning software. What I need from my scanner software is the ability to select specific portions of a field to scan in. My old scanner, a OneTouch Visioneer 8100, had this ability. But, due to its near 8 year ago and no longer being supported natively under Vista or Windows 7, plus the fact that it stopped working all together after I somehow managed, but could never replicate in my other partition saves to get the scanner working. So, I need to replace it. Right now, I've got my mother's all in one printer/scanner/copier hooked up, but, the software doesn't allow the user to select what areas in the scanning field that I want scanned, like the Visioneer software did. Now, it's all or nothing, in that it only scans the entire document, after finding it on the scanner field, with no ability to select a portion of the field to scan. So, if anyone can recommend a good scanner whose software does this, or recommend a good piece of software that does the above that I need it to, please reply away. Thanks!
  12. Plus, I've denied the installer check before in ZoneAlarm and the installer runs just fine.
  13. For all you UK buyers, I have a question about the DVD release of Doctor Who: Silver Nemesis. Amazon.com here in the States lists this R1 DVD release as 1 disc. So, I was wondering, for those who may already have the R2 DVD, which version or versions of Silver Nemesis appear on the DVD? The broadcast version, the extended version, or both? Thanks!
  14. Another thing I wish Macrium did was do backups from the rescue CD, not just restore. With a new system, I like to have an image of the system before Windows has even booted for the first time. This way, I can restore my PC to a "factory default."
  15. Discovered a big deal breaker with Reflect. It apparently doesn't overwrite existing images. It just creates new file names. That's not how I roll. I need my old backups to be overwritten.
  16. Just installed and am trying out the free Macrium partition imager. Wow, it's considerably faster than True Image. I may just switch over to using this for my backup needs. I wish it had a verify/validate function in it like True Image does, but, that's a minor thing I can live without.
  17. Actually, I discovered Macrium the same day I downloaded the trial for True Image Home 2011. I've not installed it yet, but, I do have the free version sitting in my download directory to remind me to try it out someday. I was using TI 11 before I decided to give TI 2011 a try. Can't begin to tell you how many times over on the Acronis forums I've said TI 11 instead of 2011. TI 11 was the last "working" version. The 2009 and 2010 versions had a fatal flaw in the rescue recovery CD modes: external USB drives would "disappear" after a restore operation was attempted. So, you could load an image set to recover, the recovery operation would then delete the existing partition as per its operational function, but then the external USB drives would "disappear" from the software, resulting in a failure to restore. My main beef with TI 2011 is they obviously apparently released the software without a major key part of it working. Backups to optical drives don't work, either partition or file backups. The backup operation always says to insert the last media of the backup even though the backup never actually runs. Selecting Retry just causes the same dialog to open and only Cancel does any good. I posted on their forums about it and have yet to get a response. Which just reinforces my theory that they released the software without that part working. Without an option to give the full blown Macrium a try, I doubt I'll buy it THEN try it, given how many times I've paid for software before without it working. No offense to the Macrium people, just I've been burned too many times before. However, it sounds exactly like the function I'm looking for that WAS in TI 11. I always split my archives into 4 GB chunks for exactly the reason you stated. In case I ever want to move them off to single layer DVD's.
  18. In addition to the DVD player supporting both formats, I believe the TV also needs to be able to display both formats in order for it work.
  19. I need a good file backup program. Not a partition backup program, but, a file program. I tested True Image 11 and its backups to optical drives don't appear to work. So, that, my old solution, is no longer a viable one. What I'm looking for is something with a reasonably good interface, which is a relative opinion, I know that will backup files to optical drives. I'd prefer something that's free, but, I'll try anything with a trial prog and see if it's good. Thanks!
  20. The "degradation" of data on a recordable DVD depends on the quality of the media you use. Things like Vanguard discs would die on me after only a year. CMC Magnetics often times won't even finish a burn, let alone allow for testing how long the data lasts. Unfortunately, DVD's are like everything else. The data will eventually be lost at some point in the future. So, there's nothing you can really do to prevent it. The laws of thermodynamics. But, a good quality DVD should last you a few decades, at least. Supposedly, the tests reveal that a DVD lasts 100 years. I doubt it, though, because CD's were supposed to last 30 years and we're now into those 30 years and some of the CD's, I believe, aren't holding up to the 30 year guarantee.
  21. I had a bad experience with the 7241. My 7241 died after only 4 months of use. Normally, Optiarc drives have been very good for me and usually lasted 2 years. The 7241 didn't. I got a 7261 to replace it as that was all the online store I shop at had. I hope the 7261 performs better.
  22. I definitely don't recommend the Sony/NEC/Optiarc AD-7241S! That's the one that died on me after only about 5 months. Usually had good 2 year runs with Sony/NEC/Optiarc drives. Hopefully, this new 7261 will hold up better than the 7241.
  23. Sony Optiarc 7261s. I believe the one I had previously was the 7241 or 40.
  24. It seems I set a new record when it comes to ruining my drives! I only just had the last drive for 4 months before I started getting errors writing Verbatim DVD-R and DVD+R DL. So, I decided to replace the drive since a newer version of it was only $20.99, with free shipping. I've been using the new drive for a while now and haven't gotten any errors. I could always get them, though.
  25. I once thought about asking for some functions like IFO extraction, etc. from the other software. But, I never did because of the reasons already listed here in this thread and also that they don't belong in something called ImgBurn. Only functions related to burning images, like creation of cue sheets, would be in the software.
