  1. Les;

Looks like it might be ?the feline?s posterior?. Once I get this exercise done with, I?ll look into it for future use.

    Thanks.

p.s. Keep the Poms full of Watleys for the next couple of days and the Ash Cup is in the bag: eh 'mite'?

    Good one. =))=))

  2. I 18:51:52 Destination Media Type: DVD-R (Disc ID: OPTODISCR008) (Speeds: 4x; 8x)

You can't get much worse than this.

I'd still rather not throw these away, so if there's a way to get something non-vital burned on them that would be cool. If not, that's ok too.
They really are good for nothing, do yourself a favor and toss em.
Verbatim "Advanced AZO+ recording dye" DVD-R media if needed, is that the right one?

Just go with the dye type, if they are MCC then they should be fine.

  3. Mostly because I had tried earlier burns with a different layer break and couldn't remember which breaks I had already tried. Also, yes, I've tried 2.4x, and get the same problems. In fact, in the last couple of days, every time i've selected a layer with SPLIP=no, I get a write error. I wasted 3 dvd-r's trying the same layer break over and over with one dvd backup, and was successful the first time I tried a different layer (SPLIP=Yes).

You must have missed this bit blu. ;)

  4. At the risk of sounding harsh, which I don't mean to be, just because other apps choose to do "half a job" does not mean it's the right way of doing things.

There is a right way, and a wrong way, ImgBurn chooses to do it the right way, so, no willy-waving here. :D

If the "half a job/wrong way" works just as well (for me at least) as the "proper" way, could you please tell me what advantage the proper format has? I really want to know...I'm not trying to be 'funny'.

Not directly related, however, here goes.

You take your car to a mechanic for a service, he changes the engine oil, but fails to change the filter (containing about a litre of the old shitty oil) he then refills it with new oil.

    Result: HALF A JOB.

To the driver of the car, no real difference in performance or anything else.

This would also be true for many other things in life, doing half jobs work fine for a lot of people, however they do pay for it in some form or another in the long term.

  5. If other programs can write to a disc without a tedious format *without* problems, why does ImgBurn insist on it? Looks like enforced incompatibility/willy-waving to me as there is no advantage for the end-user.

  6. LOG? I don't even know what that mean's!

The log is all the writing at the bottom of the app. If yours is not enabled, you can do so by pressing 'L' on the key board, then you'll see a heap of text filling it, that's what we need, simply copy and paste it with your next post.

It does sound like you're in 'build' mode, but the log will confirm this. :)

Side note: Most of us are far from 'young kids'. :D

  7. There is nothing wrong with that log, your problem would be more than likely be linked to your conversion method / software.

Play your converted 'DVD' files with power DVD before you build the ISO, see how it plays, if it's jerky there, then it will be jerky in the final burnt disc.

Alternatively, mount your ISO with DAEMON tools and do the same thing before burning it.

  8. There is really nothing wrong with that log, it is close enough to a perfect burn.

A couple of things come to mind.

The amount of compression used to create this ISO.

Maybe try +R media setting the book type to DVD-ROM.

  9. I'm completely new to IMG Burn, but I was a huge fan of DVD Decrypter. I have just downloaded Img Burn but it's not recognising the DVD I have in the drive. (Decrypter recognised it instantly). It also won't recognise any of the video files on the disk. Any ideas anyone? Thanks.

Please give us some more info, what is the disc? what are you trying to do? Etc.

  10. But Septic Tanks? Must be that particularly Aussie sense of humor. Or, rather unique sense of humor.

PM, it's got nothing to do with insults, it's purely rhyming with the word yank.

    Yank > Septic tank.

    Cheque > Gooses neck.

Commodore > Dunnydoor. (A very popular car in Oz) Holden Commodore, made by GM. Or GMH to us.

  11. ImgBurn gives a choice of position for the layer break on double layer discs and Nero doesn't, but I will probably always choose the position that's given the best score, so that isn't necessarily an advantage.

Maybe not to you, but many people use this feature, so it is an advantage.

It seems more like a problem with the data/layout, though I'm not expert enough to say what that fault is likely to be. It might not be Nero's fault - I ran it through Vobblanker, maybe that could have messed it up?
The drive or the software couldn't give a rats arse what was in the image or how it was layed out (from a burning point of view) it's not that clever, so what shamus said is spot on.

your problem is still either that particular disk (even Verbatim make the occasional dud) or your drive, regardless of how much you wish to argue about it.
