It is the phisical format of the disc that is differrent, no software can fix this, it's a bit like trying to burn an +R format with a drive that supports only -R format.
Again no software can fix this, it's all hardware related. Drive / disc.
-
I know that, but have you actually burnt one? After changing the setting?
If you have, then that's the info we want to see, pop one those in the drive, and post the info just like above.

Can't really guide you with the ripping programs, as far as ImgBurn settings, unless you know what you're doing, leave all settings on default, they work best in most cases.
Burning from your HDD is probably your best option. (less chance of a coaster)

It all looks pretty normal to me, I'd start by checking the PSU.
How old is this machine?
Oh, I wouldn't worry about that ASPI thing.
Do you have Nero installed?

Just for clarity can you please put the disc back in the drive, open ImgBurn and copy paste all the info that appears in the window on the right ? Not the log, the disc/drive information that is in the top right window.
Also which setting did you use on the Book type tab to change that drive ?
Thanks for your reply.
I was using the Samsung tab. Here is the info presented after selecting book type to DVD-ROM and getting a success message.

Unless I've missed something, there is nothing on this disc, did you actually burn something to it??
That's the only way you'll see the book type change. After the burn.

I can't believe what I noob I feel like given I've been working with this stuff for over a year, but every month I seem to find out something new and critical. What benefit does booktyping the discs to DVD-ROM give?
Oops. I hit post too soon. Is it something standard that you will get better compatibility in set-top players if you set the discs to be -ROM's instead of +R's or -R's or does it very widely from player to player?
Yes, it's a compatibility issue, and yes, it varies from player to player.
-
Not long at all, I would start by checking some of the older ones you've burnt, you can do this with ImgBurn in 'verify' mode.
-
I don't understand this constant comparison with nero/alcohol etc.
It's another burning program, so whatever works for you best should be the one you use, no?
But, here is some points to think about.
When you look at an install file size of 1MB vs 35MB plus for the others, then you look at just a single EXE file vs shit plasterd all over your HDD with the others, then the simple easy to use GUI, then the support offered by many knowledgeable members.
It makes the choice very simple in my books.

Just to be a wet blanket, how old is this PC? Compaq/HP have not provided any sort of OS discs for years.
Thank you linx05,May I take this oppertunity to ask another question regarding this matter? I have a original Win Xp Pro CD which came with my Compaq PC. I think I should make a copy of that [i can have 1 copy as backup legally]. I could have gone for a disk to disk copy, but due to some reason I can not boot from that CD. I have copied the files and folders of the Cd to my HDD. Now can ImgBurn be used to make a bootable CD? If yes, then how?
Please see if you could help.
Thank you again.
This is all you usually get with Compaq/HP, not both.
Still could you please give me some hints how I can make a bootable one? I have Compaq recovery CD but that simply formats the harddisk. So I need a bootable CD to recover my XP in case of trouble. -
Well, here's the stat's: My burner is a Sony; actually found out its a Samsung from trying all the different types, It is "only" after I reboot it loses the selection, If I burn another project it will hold the correct selection for Samsung and I have "no coaster", if I may ask, what type of utility would hold that info other than IB, I was kind of hoping Mr. Lighning would address that?, maybe its really not such a big deal, I can click for 2 to 3 second's and reset it all the time, the way that IB work's is fantastic...I'll do the extra tick's all the time and never mention this issue again. thanks for the reply sir.
It's the Eprom within the drive itself that holds that info, therefore when you reboot, some drives (I know LG is one of them) unload that info, and you have to reset it.
The util I was refering to is small command line batch file that runs every time you boot the computer and resets the drive to DVD-ROM.
By the way, the discs you are refering to as coasters, they realy aren't, it's just your player doesn't support +R media, you'll find they'll play just fine on a player that does.

I sense the mantle is passing from volvo to me.
Too cold for stubbies Ken. Get any snow the other day?
Regards
Blu, you didn't look too hard, I edited your post
No, But about 10K up the road (at Macedon) they certainly did, just hail and rain here.

Mr. Lightning, one more question, Note: It's 'ALL GOOD' actually IB is the bomb!, I was wondering, is there a CFG file that will hold the Book Type information after it was changed?, it appears that after I change to the correct hardware and I get the Success Ok, the very next time I use it, it will not be set for my hardware and I have to re-set it again... Not that, 'that' is all of a big deal, hell I can click for approx. 3 seconds to get there, its just after a few beverages... ha! I forgot and made some beverage coasters DL's at that... anyway sir, again thanks and please advise me on this elusive CFG file... ?
To the best of my knowledge only LG drives suffer from this, is it the next time you use it? Or is it when you reboot the pc you have to reset it?
If it's the latter, there is not much you can do about it, although there is a little util for LG's that takes care of this, there might be one for your drive as well, you just might have to search the net.

If the stubbies are on all the time, you'll need to re-author the DVD before burning it. But it sounds as if your burning issues may be behind you.
Regards
Yes blu, my stubbies are on all the time.
Wow, what an excited chap, glad to see someone that happy, happy burning.

Whats code of decent ones, as i think ones i looked at were MKM 001 @svp
Yup, these are good shit, I use them all the time, not a single coaster.

I didn't know that ken ! Maybe the Verbs will fix the problem, hey tampabill how old is that drive ?
Yeah, quite surprised myself, I know volvo has the same drive and he swears by TY's, go figure.
I finally found a shop that stocks these suckers, got all excited and bought some, they were TYGO2, every time I tried to burn them at 8X, bang, instant coaster, put the settings to 4X (The only two speeds supported by my drive) and no problems.
I then bought some 16X Verbs, (MCC) +R media, and my drive loves them, lead in time was only 16 seconds, (against 32 seconds for the TY's) and burning speeds of 12X wasn't a problem.
-
Try some different media, LG's and TY's don't get along very well, try some Verbs.
I know my LG4120 drive didn't like TY's at all.
-
Funny enough, on special occasions this still happens.
A bit hard to set alight an all steel structure though.
-
Could be that one drive just doesn't like the media, it happens, just make sure that drives firmware is up to date and that's all you can do.
Oh, and don't use WMA to play DVD's, it's usless, use Media Player Classic, or power DVD.

All fireworks have been banned in Ozy for a looooong time now.

A 'true' audio cd? No, not at this time.
If it's just mp3 files. Yes.

Ok, I'll bite, what's an 'ORKUT'?

Any programme with a 1:1 copy ability will do this for you, you have one of those programmes in your above post.
