  1. I also have XP and Vista on different drives but I am able to burn flawlessly with Vista. The program Imgburn resides on my disc with XP but I load and run Imgburn from Vista. Since I have a ton of programs that were on my drive with XP, I have not added them to my new drive with Vista, only a few programs I run often. You should not have any troubles with Vista burning.
  2. If you left it running overnight, who takes discs in and out of the drive for the burns from the batch file? That is one hell of a command if it can chage discs! I may have to add a batch file to wash the dishes and do other chores!
  3. I say take the drive back, it should not be this amount of aggravation. I had problems before with a few coasters, once I updated the firmware, I have not made a coaster since. I can even write at max speed on the cheap discs I had left, still have about six to get rid of. Since you did manage to get your firmware updated, I would take the drive back. JMO
  4. I really can not read logs that well myself, wait til someone else can do this for you better. My advice would be for you to check your firmware, I had problems early on with firmware, I thought it was the discs, however since upgrading the firmware I have not made a single coaster and am now using up the last of my imation discs and they are successful burns. I will not buy them again but I did install Vista on an imation and I just read the Vista website and they recommend burning at 2x, and I burned at 12x and had no troubles with my install. From the Vista download page 2.) Using a DVD burner and software, burn the ISO image of Windows Vista RC1 to a new blank DVD. We recommend burning at the lowest speed supported by your DVD burner (1X or 2X) to ensure the highest quality. Most DVD-burning software will recognize an ISO file. If your software does not automatically recognize this format, refer to the software's Help file for instructions.
  5. One annoying feature that happened when I downloaded the latest Opera is it AUTOMATICALLY imported bookmarks on i't own, I was not given a choice and install just did it for me. Not what I wanted, if I wanted to import FF bookmarks I would. IE7 is getting used alot more and FF as always is run almost exclusively but I find myself using IE more now.
  6. Kudos to LUK, I burned my Vista copy on imgburn. The upgrade adviser recommended that I uninstall Nero and Kerio and I have no future plans to reinstall them. LUk, what AV are you running on Vista? I picked up a copy of onecare but did not like it and AVG can not load the Resident Shield so I went with CA and man that finds twice the files that exist, I had 385,000 files which included close to fifty thousand files for the new Vista which according to Vista, it has 18.897 files and in program files I have less than 3000 on the newly formatted drive that Vista resides in. I guess I will wait til AVG resolves this issue. Those sounds were hilarious.
  7. Well, there won't be a need for a second Add/Remove Programs. Regardless of where they are installed to, anything that will have an entry in Add/Remove will appear in Windows's Add/Remove Programs. There's only the one Add/Remove Programs. The only thing is and it is not worth worrying about is that there are a few obsolete programs on the HP drive that I should have removed first yesterday, they do not show up in Windows add and remove programs. Any new programs added will.... great, I was not sure, this way I can just delete them from there. Thanks dbminter.
  8. How can I uninstall programs that are on my second HD? I suppose I could set bios to boot off of windows on the second drive and then I would have a control panel for that drive, has to be an easier way...?
  9. Thanks! I am trying to access the control panel for the second drive, I am not given an option to select which drive from control panel and there are some programs I would like to remove. I may just re-format and partition the HD but want to hesitate as i sometimes am compulsive. There is nothing on the HD that I am concerned about, it has brain dead Millennium installed as an OS and that is about it with a few programs I would like to get rid of. Where is my CP for the second drive? TIA
  10. dbminter. lfcrule1972. Thanks for the ideas, I ended up taking a nerf football that I bought last Sunday but on dog had already destroyed so I cut two slices, 1/4 inch wide and placed in between hard drives and ratcheted down with cable ties. Should work as a good shock absorber. As for the old HD, Pavillion, it is fat32, should I change it to NTFS? Mainly plan on using it for ripping.
  11. Ironically it was a HP Pavillion that I took the drive from and put it into a Dell, now I have the issue of securing the HD. The dell 2400 does not have a bay to place an extra HD but there is room but there are kits available and extra brackets you can add, I may rig something up myself.
  12. First of all apologies hate to make anyone go grrr! Well I finally got it going, earlier I had my son jumping on my back as I had two pc's torn apart. It was just a matter of powering down and restarting and working with the bios, I figured it out as in bios, it does not recognize the slave drive for my optical drives so I figured it also did not recognize the slave for hard drives. I did not know what the chat forum was for, I thought it was litterly chat. Note to myself, post off topic in chat and also FF spell check does not work for litterly
  13. Not an inmburn related issue but i figured some here could steer me straight. I am adding a second hard drive and having problems. My original cable was not dual so I picked up a dual cable and it is installed on my main HD, and boots up just fine, my second hd when it is connected causes both hard drives not to be recognized. In bios I always have unknown master and unknown secondary master, of course I am trying to add it as a slave and have tried all jumper positions and it always just makes the main hard drive unrecognizable. Setting up the dvd drives as slave and master was a piece of cake, any ideas on what I may be doing wrong? TIA
  14. I was looking through the guides yesterday, how does one compile an iso of pure jpegs? Ok I think I answered my own question, it is there in guides, you use build mode. How should you handle folders? Leave them in the root directory? Nevere tried it this method by I see already that I prefer it! TIA PS. I did not know that compression had nothing to do with it. Thanks
  15. Current firmware works just fine (hsoe) I even got gutsy backing up an old DVD and I used the cheap discs that caused me burn errors before and it worked....no coaster. Maybe because it did not require to be compressed is why the burn was successful.
  16. Too late for that now, I updated last night with the new firmware, maybe i was a little too impulsive. I guess it is not that easy to just roll back on the firmware update, I tried to see what the flash hsod would show, it did not detect the drive since flashing with hsoe, although it did show it detected the same model # Hope hsoe works good. Don't fix it if it ain't broke..... I am a firm believer of this but I did re-flash
  17. I recently downloaded Opera, I used it years ago when it was version 6 or 7 I am more impressed with the recent build, however it does not handle ajax well.
  18. I was the one that used the wrong firmware term, that is the correct firmware at rpc1.org but they have not updated since the first of the year, this last firmware was issued in Sept. 06 For the record I have three successful burns with the hsod, I have not tried the hsoe yet although I did flash the drive, if I have problems with the new one, I will just roll back.
  19. da Clown, Thanks, I flashed with the wrong firmware earlier. How often does firmware change?
  20. No I did not pay for him, it was a gift, he has Garfield too.
  21. I am glad IE 7 is out. I run an ajax comment system on two of my sites that will only function with FF or the IE7 browser. It has something to do with the way the browser handles XMLHttpRequest. Opera will not work nor will IE 6, FF has never had problems, the IE 7 Beta worked so I was glad when they updated to the final release.
  22. It all depends on the mid and country of manufacture. Stick with Verbatim DataLifePlus or Taiyo Yuden abd you won't go wrong with the media. Then, if the firmware is the newest the odds are in your favor. However scrap drives do come in new boxes as well... Then you answered your own question from above... ... but I'd still get good media and see what happens next. 50 or 500 discs that are crap are just that, the only difference is the frustration you are willing to accept by having 50-60-70-80% failures. Popped in the TDK and viola, successful burn!!!! What a difference a disc makes! I did check it on one DVD burner and it showed up no disc, I said I was not giving up hope on it and I went to the bedroom and it works on that DVD player. Now I am thinking, I now I have heard the happy tune before on some discs, where are these discs? I am assuming I broke them, should have checked the other DVD player first!. The TDK burned successfully first time! Thanks again, PS Now my son will be happy! He has Curious George!
  23. Do TDK's have a decent dye? The drive is new, used very little, I have had it only a couple of months. I doubt the drive is broken, I can view DVD's on it and have recorded them also Thanks.
  24. Thanks for all the help, I did upgrade the firmware and tried to burn again, logs below. http://code.pastebin.ca/210256 As for the crappy DVD's, I am almost done with the 30 discs I bought at Wal*Mart. I have another stack of 50 TDK's, I hope they will be better, from here on out I will make sure that I am using better discs. The discs have done well before though so I am not sure I can blame these fails on the media. Since I have a few discs left to be used up I may give it a try in Nero just to see what happens... another coaster for the wife! As for my HD, yeah it is pretty used up, I have a thirty gig HD that I can add but that is not much so I do need to get more gigs. I really thought the firmware would fix it. Do those logs give any indication? TIA
  25. Thanks Shamus for the quick reply, I did try that link you posted for firmware and the link is no longer valid. Last night I download the correct firmware for my drive but am unsure how to add it. I checked in the device manager and could not find anything. I also DL a flash.exe for flashing my drive but wanted to make sure that it is necessary. And I also got an Incd clean tool, how can I check that it actually was removed? Before I sound too stupid, I did search for incd and can not find any trace on my PC, I never did install it but Nero likes to add it in and does not add it to the Nero folders. I just checked the registry editor and the clean tool is in almost every folder for nero, I am not sure if this is by default or since I downloaded it last night? Sorry for being longwinded, two things, 1.) how to add firmware? and second to make sure incd is gone. Thanks
