Stefan1971HH Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 Hello community, I have some mp4 video files and wanted to try if my standalone can play them, though I had guessed not. I have burnt them several times do DVD-RW, using both of my drives (Pioneer DVD-R 115 and LiteOn DH20A4P), and using various kinds of media, among them Verbatim RWs. Each time my drives read the disc, but my standalone gives me the above error. Point is: If the problem was only that the standalone cannot play this file format, it should nevertheless list the files on my TV screen. It doesn't, so there seems to be a compatibility problem, which probably could be solved with different settings, because my standalone can read discs burnt with nero. (But because Nero has become a trerrible space-eating monster I was looking for a more slim solution) Does anyone have an idea which settings are responsible for this? tia, Stefan ImgBurn.log
mmalves Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 I 06:04:57 File System(s): ISO9660, UDF (1.02)I 06:05:01 Destination Device: [0:1:0] PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-115D 1.18 (I:) (ATA) There's newer firmware available for your burner (remove any disc and close the tray before updating then reboot after it's finished). Try again using ISO9660 + Joliet filesystems and it should work By the way, when you say discs burned with Ner0 work, it might be because Ner0 could be converting them to DVD-Video format (the format that all standalone DVD players understand). You can do it this way by using DVD Flick or ConvertXtoDVD.
Stefan1971HH Posted May 20, 2009 Author Posted May 20, 2009 (edited) Thanks, but is this "official" firmware? According to the manufacturer's website mine seems to be the newest: http://www.pioneer.de/de/content/support/s...html#fdvdwriter Nero hadn't changed the files into DVD format. I used to burn video files simply as data project with nero (not creating menues etc) and the result was playable in my standalone (or even when it could't read the file format, the dvd player showed a list of the files on the TV screen). greetings, Stefan Edit: ok, I've just found the firmware you mentioned on Pioneer's international site Edited May 20, 2009 by Stefan1971HH
Stefan1971HH Posted May 20, 2009 Author Posted May 20, 2009 So I just tried burning with ISO9660 + Joliet, but it didn't help :-( I haven't done the firmware update yet. Though it's recommendable in general, I doubt firmware the cause here, for the same problem occured with both of my drives in combination with several media.
LIGHTNING UK! Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 Burn a disc of the same content with each program and examine the result (using your eyes and Explorer) to check the exact same folders / files are present on both.
Stefan1971HH Posted May 21, 2009 Author Posted May 21, 2009 Thanks for the hint. I now burnt the same content with nero ( 8 .mp4 videoclips)- and suddenly experienced the same thing (readable in DVD drives, not in standalone) Then I burnt the same 8 files and 2 mpeg files on the same disk with nero. Now the standalone loaded the disk, but listed only the two mpeg files(and was able to play them) So actually the problem, unlike I had assumed, seems related to the file format; the player obviously gives an "unknown disc" - error in case there are exclusively file formats it can't play. What got me confused was the fact that, in earlier burns, videofiles that were not playable for the standalone were nevertheless still listed on the TV screen, these were in most cases .wmv files. Maybe the player (a DK Digital 339) has a special issue with .mp4 format or changed its behaviour with the last firmware upgrade. So: My apologies and thanks for your support, imgburn is innocent. greetings, Stefan
