Darkfalz Posted March 29, 2006 Posted March 29, 2006 I'd like a selection of things to do with done... maybe rewrite the option so it can do any of three things, close program, enter standby, or turn off computer. I don't know many people who turn off their computer more than once in a while, I almost always use standby.
LIGHTNING UK! Posted March 29, 2006 Posted March 29, 2006 and I don't know anyone who uses standby! Works both ways I guess. I've added options for log off, restart, shutdown, standby and hibernate.
lfcrule1972 Posted March 29, 2006 Posted March 29, 2006 I hardly ever turn my PC off only when a re-start is requested.
spinningwheel Posted March 29, 2006 Posted March 29, 2006 I never leave mine on when it's not used....
LIGHTNING UK! Posted March 29, 2006 Posted March 29, 2006 That's the eco-friendly way to do things. Good on ya
Darkfalz Posted March 29, 2006 Author Posted March 29, 2006 I never leave mine on when it's not used.... Neither do I! Which is why Standby is awesome. YOu can leave IE etc. open, and your computer is ready to use after only a few seconds. Power consumption in Standby is something like 10 watts, ie. nothing.
lfcrule1972 Posted March 30, 2006 Posted March 30, 2006 <cough> I might not be sitting in front of it but its always doing something........ With 3 other users of the PC in our house its just not worth shutting it down.....
Billy Posted April 6, 2006 Posted April 6, 2006 I like to turn my computer off when it's not being used, like when I'm at work or sleeping. I don't like letting my computer cook and kick around dust just for the sake of keeping it running.
lfcrule1972 Posted April 6, 2006 Posted April 6, 2006 Neither do I - as I said mine is always doing something.........
Irfan Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 I've added options for log off, restart, shutdown, standby and hibernate. Where are these options?
LIGHTNING UK! Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 They've been there for ages. Look on the 'General' tab in the settings.

Shamus_McFartfinger Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 They've been there for ages. Look on the 'General' tab in the settings. I thought we were talking about standby?
dontasciime Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 Standby/hiber/restart they are all there in 2.3.2.0 Never ever used em, handy for some though.

Well, slap me down and call me Susan. I never knew standby was in there too. Movie Junkie Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 Because of the jobs I get faxed to me, my business computer is on 24/7 (I do turn the monitor off when I am not using the computer). The computer I built a few years ago is only turned on when I am using it. The longest that one had been on is around 2 days (except when I was stressing it right after I completed building it). Other than shutdowns for normal maintenance and restarts my business computer has been on for at least the past 7+ years. I do not have it go into standby nor do I have the HD turn off at any time. I consider myself VERY lucky because I have never had any failure other than the ZIP drive and DVD-ROM drive that came with it.
