jeffshead Posted April 15, 2006 Posted April 15, 2006 All discs burned using: DVD Decrypter-->DVD Shrink-->ImgBurn will not play in my laptop. However, they play fine on my PC and stand alone players. I can use DVD Decrypter-->DVD Shrink-->nero and my notebook can play them fine using the same exact media (DVD-R). For some reason the Samsung CDRW/DVD does not like how ImgBurn burns the discs or how the image is created using Shrink. I have the latest firmware Has anyone experienced this type of problem? Is there a work around or test?
LIGHTNING UK! Posted April 15, 2006 Posted April 15, 2006 Can your laptop read the discs (full stop) that ImgBurn burns? i.e. are the files visible within explorer? Could you post a log of the burn please - also be sure to verify the media so I can see that part too. What player software (and version of it) are you using?

The discs are visible within explorer sometimes. I do not get any errors. The drive just keeps trying to read the discs. I've tried Media Player 9, WinDVD 4, PowerDVD 6. None of them will play the discs properly. PowerDVD 6 seems to work the best. While replying to your message I decided to ?waste? some DVD?s. I have come to the conclusion it must be a media related problem. I burned the same iso file on 2- Memorex DVD?s and on 2-Taiyo Yuden DVD?s. The TY DVD?s play fine in everything. The Memorex DVD?s play fine in everything but the laptop. I had previously ruled out the media because I have several Memorex DVD?s that do play fine in the laptop and some of the discs are from the same batch. I am still confused because all of the Memorex DVD?s I currently have (100-200) play fine in every player I have tried them in and some of them play fine in the laptop. Do you have an explanation? I know most people will tell you to stay away from Memorex media, but I have gone through 5-100 piece packs and have not had one coaster! With that said, I will not buy anymore because I now know there is a problem with the media. I just wish I would have found this out before burning so many movies onto Memorex DVD?s. Bummer. Most of my movie collection was burned onto that media. Edited April 15, 2006 by jeffshead
LIGHTNING UK! Posted April 15, 2006 Posted April 15, 2006 CMC are pretty awful so it makes sense that the TY's play ok. I guess your laptops dvd drive is just more sensitive to bad media.

Jeffshead not trying to pee on your parade but you might consider re doing dvd's you really want to keep to the TY's those Memorex have a habit of becoming un-readable after a short time

I guess I will start transfering. I have never had an issue with TY's, but since I'm going to back most everything up, is there any other brand that is superior?
kevdriver Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 jeffshead, Verbatim are a good choice as well. Excellent dye formation and lastability.
