GravuTrad Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 (edited) Hi to all. My question is about the write speed choosen by imgburn (and other softs too) Why only burn with supported media speed only? Technically, couldn't you force the burn at the speed you choose? cause if a media can be burn at x6 x12 x16 x18, why couldn't it be at x1 x2 x2.4 x4 x8 x14? What's the technical problem about this? Thanks for advance for the explanations. Edited January 13, 2010 by GravuTrad
LIGHTNING UK! Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 The write speeds for a particular MID/dye are defined within the firmware on the drive, and no, you can't just force it to use any speed you like. As for why it's done like that, you'd have to take it up with the drive manufacturer.
igorv Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 Why only burn with supported media speed only? It's to prevent users from doing stupid things. It's bad if you buy 16X DVD-R and burn it at 1X speed, lol, because 16X disc is not good for burning on low speeds. Same if you buy 4X DVD-R and burn it at 16X speed, its too fast for this media. But, you can find hacked firmwares for Lite-On's, NEC's etc. which allow different speeds. Do this only if you know which DVD can be burned on other speeds. For example, I had 8X Verbatims which was burned perfectly on my hackes NEC at 16X burning speed.
GravuTrad Posted January 14, 2010 Author Posted January 14, 2010 Do you know this kind of hacked firmware for the plextor px760a?
