I have 2 DVD burners & I want to alternate between them (to get even wear) when I look at the #2 DVD in Device Capabilities it shows the Read Capabilities checked but it doesn’t have any Write capabilities checked and I cant check any. I look at the #1 DVD and I see several boxes checked on both sides Read & Write, The #2 DVD has grayed boxes as does the #1 DVD Burner but #1 has check marks in both sides & #2 doesn't. How can I setup the #2 DVD burner so I can burn with it as I do with the #1 burner?

#1 is a Samsung (sata) and #2 is a Sony (IDE)

This is what I get when I load a blank DVD into the tray, select Burner #2 and load what I want to burn, I never get anything but Device Not Ready (Meduim Not Present) as if I didn't put a disk in so i ahve to use #1 to burn with.

I have tried several things to change the capabilities without success.

How do I set it up so I can use the 2nd DVD for burning DVD’s just as I do with #1?

I should have added that I can rip, play or burn with the #2 burner.

Thanks, Now I will have to open the computer up and make sure these model #’s are correct. I swore I bought 2 burners when I built this Computer but you may be correct as I just checked the receipts and I paid about $15 less than for the other burner. I was positive I had used this Sony to rip and burn but not for quite some time. My intent originally was to have 2 burners. Well that answers the mystery.

Thanks again

You can open the Log window via the 'View' menu.

It should be left open at all times.

The initial device scan results should have told you that you had 1 burner and 1 DVDROM. The device capabilities screen only confirmed that.
