aaron25 Posted December 13, 2010 Share Posted December 13, 2010 So, I have been trying for weeks to burn a boot disk to reformat my computer. I am trying to burn the opensuse image onto a dvd. The first problem always seems to be that the verify always fails. I believe this is because I am using a DVD+R. I am living in China at the moment and the MCC-003-00 disc ID is what I found at first. I went to a friend who burned a successful copy of the image and when I brought it back to my computer, it would not even recognize that there was a disk in the drive. I eventually went to go get a Sony Dvd-rw, and I burned it successfully (without verify). I know that its successful because I have checked it on a friends computer and it shows up. However, when I check it on my computer, the same problem comes up, it doesn't even show that there is a disk in the drive. I updated my drivers (well, they were already up to date), i uninstalled/reinstalled dvd drive, i unplugged it and then plugged it back in, i deleted the Upperfilter registry in regedit. Then it came down to the fact that i needed to update the firmware for my dvd drive. I searched everywhere for firmware updates for the Optiarc DVD RW AD-7563A WX05 (ATA), but nowhere seems to have them. So, I guess any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I'm out of ideas, other than to get a new drive. I still have an inkling that the drive isn't the problem though. I can still play cds and dvds, and it recognizes that a burnable dvd is in the drive when I put it in. The only problem is that when it is burned it doesn't recognize the disk. I also tried changing imgburn to incremental burn, that didn't help. any advice would be appreciated, even if its just telling me that this drive is beat. I've almost come to that conclusion myself, but its sometimes a little difficult navigating with shop clerks in china, so i've put it off (ive only been here for a few months and my chinese isn't amazing yet). LIGHTNING UK! Posted December 13, 2010 Share Posted December 13, 2010 Why haven't you service packed your OS to SP2? Update to 2.5.4.0 so you don't get caught out by the bug I fixed. Switch back to DAO/SAO for the 'Write Type'. Try the other supported write speeds. You should have got a normal size external drive, not another internal slimline. BobN Posted January 13, 2011 Share Posted January 13, 2011 (edited) If you still have this problem after installing an up-to-date copy of Imgburn and make sure you are using good discs (I use Philips DVDs) you might take a look at a question I asked about this same sort of thing - empty discs after an apparently good burn. Look at my reply to my own question at http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?showtopic=16669 I'm not saying that it will fix your problem but it is a simple thing to try.
