8.5 DL Disks Won't Burn At 2.4X - Only 4X???

Yes i know this has been bought up before,but ever since updating imgburn i have been getting "write miscompares",my drive supports writing at 2.4X,for the TDK (Ritek) DVD-R DL,now it doesn't,in fact all of my burners supported 2.4X until imgburn updated twice.... i will post up all info next burn,which should be in the next few hours,when i get back home...

Updating ImgBurn isn't going to make any difference to your drive's firmware - and that's what controls the 'supported' write speeds.

i realise this,i have never had any problems burning with older versions of imgburn previously,just since imgburn update,now,what i have found,and this is most likely the answer,it's the discs themselves,the 2.4X write speed has been replaced with 4,6 and 8 X write speeds,and as you can see in my log it states that,and on the box of TDK's it states 8X speed

I have one burner and and older version of img burn on another PC...that burns @ 2.4 X with even these new TDK 8X discs...whats the go in your opinion?keeping in mind,apart from img updates were performed,nothing touched firmware or any other thing wise touched on ALL burners

If you're not going to use good quality media then at least update your burner's firmware to stand a chance of getting good burns.

where i am ritek,verbatims and TDK's (Ritek also) are the best we have here mate...as you can see from log,it needs to be at 2,4 or you get skipping/jitter problems burning @ 4X or over...

Burning at a slow speed doesn't necessarily result in a better burn quality, which is what the reader devices care about. As you've said yourself, that's 8x rated media, so you should at least try that and 6x.

 

By the way, it's the burner who determines the available burn speeds, and while ImgBurn sends the command for the 2.4x write speed you chose, the burner simply ignores it and uses the closest available write speed, which is 4x. If you want to burn slower than that then you'll need to find media that your burner supports 2.4x with.

Yes thanks very much for your assistance today,very much appreciated,but the only thing that i am at a loss with,is that my other PC will accept 2.4 X on these discs(8X)and an older version of imgburn,any inkling as to why this is possible?...Thanks

Older version didn't show the 'Write Speed Miscompare' message in the Log window, but they still worked the same way. Have a look in the older logs of your other PC's old ImgBurn (you can find them in the Help menu) and check the average write speed shown at the end of each burn log.
