markhov Posted August 20, 2006 Posted August 20, 2006 Hello Everyone, This is my first post, but I did do my homework and read the FAQ, read the guides, and read the similar topics in the Support forum. However, I am stumped! I'm burning a simple .img file to a DVD+R, and it won't play in my DVD player, although 4 different computers like it just fine. I'm using a NEC 2510A and have updated the firmware to 2.18 (most recent). I am using Imation DVD+R 8x disks. The player in question HAS played these same disks burned with this same player before. I have ImgBurn 2.0.0.0 (and was a previous user or DVD Decrypter). Changed speed from MAX to 8x. No joy. Changed speed from 8x to 6x. No joy. Changed speed from 6x to 4x. No joy. My info... _NEC DVD_RW ND-2510A 2.18 (ATA) Current Profile: DVD+R Disc Information: Status: Empty Erasable: No Free Sectors: 2,295,104 Free Space: 4,700,372,992 bytes Free Time: 510:03:29 (MM:SS:FF) Supported Write Speeds: 2.4x, 4x, 6x, 8x Physical Format Information (ADIP): Disc ID: RICOHJPN-R02-03 Book Type: DVD+R Part Version: 1 Disc Size: 120mm Maximum Read Rate: Not Specified Number of Layers: 1 Track Path: Parallel Track Path (PTP) Linear Density: 0.267 um/bit Track Density: 0.74 um/track First Physical Sector of Data Area: 196,608 Last Physical Sector of Data Area: 2,491,711 Last Physical Sector in Layer 0: 0 Any advice would be most appreciated.
LIGHTNING UK! Posted August 20, 2006 Posted August 20, 2006 Your player might not like those discs. It might like them slightly better if you could booktype them to DVDROM rather than leaving them on DVD+R. Can't remember if the NEC 2510 actually supports that though.

It has liked the disks in the past, although since everything breaks down I assume it might like them less as it gets older and the laser gets weaker? When I try to hit the "change" button to set the booktype, I get an error message. It's not very detailed, just a basic "FAILED" if I remember correctly. I assume that means that the burner doesn't support booktyping them to DVDROM? Thank you for your help.
LIGHTNING UK! Posted August 20, 2006 Posted August 20, 2006 You may need to use the 'RICOH' tab for that drive rather than the NEC one.

markhov Posted August 22, 2006 Author Posted August 22, 2006 Thank you all again for your help. From what I can tell, the NEC drive "almost" supports it, but has an error at the last moment. Changing the tab to RICOH doesn't seem to work...everything stays greyed out. I will check to see if the disks play better in a more modern player. Given how much sales are these days, a new player may be cheaper than a new burner. We'll see. However, in keeping options open, would you be kind enough to either recommend another cost-effect DL burner that DOES support this feature, or simply pointing me to a thread where this discussion has already taken place? Thank you again. You have been most helpful and kind.
lfcrule1972 Posted August 22, 2006 Posted August 22, 2006 I have that drive in a cupboard somewhere I am 99% certain it does support book typing but I think I used a hacked herries firmware to do it http://herrie.rpc1.org/downloads/2x00/2xx0v3-2.rar Try this one if you know what you're doing !
polopony Posted August 22, 2006 Posted August 22, 2006 hello LFC ,it would have to be the hacked firmware the original NEC wouldn't do it
lfcrule1972 Posted August 22, 2006 Posted August 22, 2006 Thanks polo been a while since I had that drive installed !
