edwood Posted October 26, 2012 Share Posted October 26, 2012 I am trying to burn a DL disk using DVDFlick (latest release of both DVDFlick and ImgBurn). I am trying to create a library of the old Perry Mason TV series. I can burn 4 episodes on a 5gb (single layer) DVD, but when I try to burn 8 episodes on a 9gb (dual layer) DVD, ImgBurn locks up. The ImgBurn window shows the task message "Preparing Images" for what it is doing but does not go any further. I have let it run all night (16 hours) and it never advances past that stage. I am running Windows 7 Ultimate with 4gb ram, 2 1tb harddrives, and a HP DVD Writer 1040i Dual Layer Burner. I am using Memorex DVD+R DL disks record speed for disks is rated at 2.4x. edwood Posted October 27, 2012 Author Share Posted October 27, 2012 ImgBurn PM Log File.logDVDFlick is on autopilot. It automatically starts ImgBurn at the appropriate time in the process. There was never a dialog window that popped open to allow me to set the layer break position. Yesterday, I opened ImgBurn and loaded the files for the Perry Mason disk I was trying to create. ImgBurn then gave me the dialog window for setting the layer break position. It worked for several minutes then a new dialog window popped up with the error message: Set L0 Data Zone Capacity Failed! - Reason: Power Calibration Area Error. Attached is the error log from this burning episode. I ran the process again, and got the same error message again. Maybe someone can intrpret this file and tell me what I need to do to correct the error. Thanks for your help. Have a great weekend! edwood Posted October 27, 2012 Author Share Posted October 27, 2012 I don't think that the media is the problem. As stated above there are Memorex DVD+R DL disks. I have been using them for some time without any problems burning them. In fact, this session is the only time I have had a problem with them. Posted October 27, 2012 Share Posted October 27, 2012 You say that as if Memorex are good.... they aren't and all they do is stick their name on whatever MID/dye they can get a good deal on at the time. Either way, your drive is having a problem with them. You could take that to mean your drive has a problem or you can blame it on the media. I'd start by blaming it on the media. If you buy the decent discs and your drive still fails, you'll know you need to buy a new one. The thread you were linked to earlier was created because we've seen this problem with the cheapo double layer discs sooooooooooooooooooooo many times. We don't make this stuff up for the fun of it. The drive does the actual burning of the disc, software simply provides it with data. It should therefore be able to produce a working burn without any settings having to be messed around with. edwood Posted November 14, 2012 Author Share Posted November 14, 2012 The problem was not the disks, it was the burner - an HP dvd 1041i writer. I purchased a new ASUS SDRW-08D2S-U Slimline External player and have not burned a coaster yet! It might be that my Memorex DVD+R DL disks are approximately 2 1/2 - 3 years old and were made when Memorex "cared" about quality. Thanks for all the help you offered. LIGHTNING UK! Posted November 14, 2012 Share Posted November 14, 2012 It's always a combination of the two so I'm not surprised changing the drive appears to have done the trick for you. Drives that fail on some of the cheaper discs will usually burn Verbatim ones without a problem. Other drives will burn everything just fine.
