sparafucille Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 details: OS- Windows 7 Ultimate x64 + SP1 RAM- 8GB HDD- Kingston SSD (112GB for system), Seagate 3TB ST3000DM01-1CH1 ImgBurn- 2.5.8.0 DVD Writer- LG HL-DT-ST GH24NS95 ImgBurn log file- attached anything I missed? I fail to burn DL with speed 4 (data, not dvd) but oddly enough I have no problem with my older PC (WinXP x32 + SP3,2GB Ram) with the same type of DVDwriter (except GH22). Please help
sparafucille Posted August 3, 2013 Author Posted August 3, 2013 forgot to mention: CPU I7 (as opposed to Core 2 Duo on XP) all data point to some advantage with windows 7 in both cases I burn with speed x4 and FS ISO9660+UDF. Is there a way to export my settings or view recommended settings? thanks again

sparafucille Posted August 5, 2013 Author Posted August 5, 2013 thanks for your quick reply. if it only a question of media, how come it works fine on a far weaker old XP pc? and failing on write error?! but I'll listen to your advice and get verbatim dvd+r dl and we'll see what happens. thanks again
spinningwheel Posted August 5, 2013 Posted August 5, 2013 if it only a question of media, how come it works fine on a far weaker old XP pc? and failing on write error?! All machine/drive/firmware combos are different, even one machine with it's exact mirror twin will act differently. It all comes down to a combo that the computing genies allow to work. For most users it's not a problem, but for some there needs to be some tweaking done for the genies to smile.
sparafucille Posted August 13, 2013 Author Posted August 13, 2013 Now I burnt with Verbatim dvd+r dl with speed 4 and it failed again, but in the verification phase/ Can anyone help? Does it make sense to add the old sata LG x22 dvd writer to the new pc? Since the new pc is so fast will burning with speed x8 help? thanks log file below: I 11:45:06 ImgBurn Version 2.5.8.0 started!I 11:45:06 Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate x64 Edition (6.1, Build 7601 : Service Pack 1)I 11:45:06 Total Physical Memory: 8,276,012 KiB - Available: 6,409,008 KiBI 11:45:06 Initialising SPTI...I 11:45:06 Searching for SCSI / ATAPI devices...I 11:45:07 -> Drive 1 - Info: HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GH24NS95 RN01-34 (J:) (SATA)I 11:45:07 Found 1 DVD±RW/RAM!I 11:45:45 Operation Started!I 11:45:45 Building Image Tree...I 11:45:55 Calculating Totals...I 11:45:55 Preparing Image...I 11:45:56 Contents: 669 Files, 71 FoldersI 11:45:56 Content Type: DataI 11:45:56 Data Type: MODE1/2048I 11:45:56 File System(s): ISO9660, UDF (1.02)I 11:45:56 Volume Label: 477I 11:45:56 Size: 8,263,364,767 bytesI 11:45:56 Sectors: 4,035,162I 11:45:56 Image Size: 8,266,416,128 bytesI 11:45:56 Image Sectors: 4,036,336I 11:45:57 Operation Successfully Completed! - Duration: 00:00:11I 11:45:57 Operation Started!I 11:45:57 Source File: -==/\/[bUILD IMAGE]\/\==-I 11:45:57 Source File Sectors: 4,036,336 (MODE1/2048)I 11:45:57 Source File Size: 8,266,416,128 bytesI 11:45:57 Source File Volume Identifier: 477I 11:45:57 Source File Volume Set Identifier: 430D5DB6003D96E2I 11:45:57 Source File Application Identifier: IMGBURN V2.5.8.0 - THE ULTIMATE IMAGE BURNER!I 11:45:57 Source File Implementation Identifier: ImgBurnI 11:45:57 Source File File System(s): ISO9660, UDF (1.02)I 11:45:57 Destination Device: [0:0:0] HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GH24NS95 RN01 (J:) (SATA)I 11:45:57 Destination Media Type: DVD+R DL (Disc ID: MKM-003-00)I 11:45:57 Destination Media Supported Write Speeds: 4x, 8xI 11:45:57 Destination Media Sectors: 4,173,824I 11:45:57 Destination Media L0 Data Zone Capacity: 2,086,912 (Changeable: Yes)I 11:45:57 Write Mode: DVDI 11:45:57 Write Type: DAOI 11:45:57 Write Speed: 4xI 11:45:57 DVD+R DL Reserve Track: NoI 11:45:57 Link Size: AutoI 11:45:57 Lock Volume: YesI 11:45:57 Test Mode: NoI 11:45:57 OPC: NoI 11:45:57 BURN-Proof: EnabledI 11:45:57 Write Speed Successfully Set! - Effective: 5,540 KB/s (4x)I 11:45:57 Book Type Setting: DVD-ROMI 11:45:57 Optimal L0 Data Zone Capacity: 2,018,176I 11:45:57 Optimal L0 Data Zone Method: ECC Block BoundaryI 11:45:57 Set L0 Data Zone Capacity Succeeded!I 11:45:57 L0 Data Zone Capacity - Effective: 2,018,176I 11:45:58 Filling Buffer... sparafucille Posted September 19, 2013 Author Posted September 19, 2013 interesting now that I follow all rules and burn at speed 4 with ImgBurn on Verbatim nobody can explain why I fail, except the vague answer of spinningwheel that something in machine/drive/firmware is misiing. again: drive- LG HL-DT-ST GH24NS95 firmware- last according to LG site machine? is it pc hardware, OS or what and what should I change I'll try to add Sony Optiarc since it looks like a popular burner in this site but I have serious doubts meanwhile I go back to my old and weak pc with XP and core 2 duo cpu and 2GB ram and burn dvd9 without a wink but it is not a solution. the xp is a dying machine (over 6 years old) and I need a solution to burn 8GB of data (not a movie) thanks again
LIGHTNING UK! Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 Did you ever try burning at 8x? Your drive really shouldn't be having any problems burning to MKM-003-00 at any of the speeds it claims to support - unless the discs you've got aren't up to the normal standards expected of that MID. Sometimes discs manufactured in different countries (with the same MID) perform differently. As your drive failed to close the disc nicely and then failed to read back a few sectors at the end of disc during verification, just check the outer edge of them looks ok - no dust, scratches, finger prints, odd things going on with the dye (colour changes) etc. If your old drive will plug into your new machine (i.e. it's SATA), by all means install that in your PC and continue to use it instead of the new one.

If I succeeds in copying the dvd to hard disk, does it mean that data is readable and I can ignore verify failure? thanks
sparafucille Posted September 23, 2013 Author Posted September 23, 2013 Is there any way to know if my burner (LG HL-DT-ST GH24NS95) is SATA3? couldn't find it in LG site (probably is not too new) because all my sata on board are SATA3 so perhaps this is my problem and I have to by an internal SATA2 card (if there is one) thanks
LIGHTNING UK! Posted September 23, 2013 Posted September 23, 2013 Reading / verifying / copying are all the same thing. All it's doing is trying to read each sector on the disc - which your drive is unable to do. If the blank discs are ok, maybe the drive is faulty? Your issue has nothing to do with SATA2 or 3. They're backwards compatible anyway.
sparafucille Posted September 23, 2013 Author Posted September 23, 2013 I read about L-EC uncorrectable error and found that I have to add my drive family tree info for the complete picture so here it is attached (drive family tree.jpg) thanks
sparafucille Posted September 23, 2013 Author Posted September 23, 2013 Thanks again LIGHTNING UK! since it is the drive you suspect I attached the drive family tree in my previous post it is new and with last firmware but I'm willing to throw it away or add a new drive if I only knew which would solve my problem (needless to say that I don't have any trouble with DVD5 on any media)
