Shamus_McFartfinger Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 Welcome. A good drive. Good media. Recent firmware. You?ve burned images both before and after this failure which means all is working as it should. I can only summise that the failure can be placed at your source file. If it were me, I?d probably run the ISO through DVD Shrink just to check its integrity.
HatchetMan Posted October 23, 2006 Author Posted October 23, 2006 Done. DVDShrink likey... But, I no wanna send thru and create another coaster as that would mean I could have bought another copy of this by now($$$). LUK - whatcha think?
Shamus_McFartfinger Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 Not asking you to create another coaster, just to check your existing file without wasting another disk. DVD Shrink will howl and complain if something isn?t right with the ISO (which is a good thing). Tell it to output the files to your HD somewhere.
HatchetMan Posted October 23, 2006 Author Posted October 23, 2006 DVDShrink iso successfully completed, backup complete. Of course the PGCEdit created iso looked perfectly fine too...
lfcrule1972 Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 Did both write errors occur at the same point on the two dual layer discs ? Failed to Write Sectors 3820288 - 3820319 - Write Error Do you have the log of the second failed burn ?
LIGHTNING UK! Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 It can only ever be the drive/firmware/media. One of those isn't quite right and hence you're producing coasters. I know the Pioneer can overspeed to 8x but have you tried the media recommended speed of 2.4x?

I know the Pioneer can overspeed to 8x but have you tried the media recommended speed of 2.4x? I have never done 2.4X, only 4X, dozens of times before and twice since producing this error (same batch of Verbatim +R DL) , both times successful, but with a different file/movie. I didn't think there was anything wrong with this file and now I am convinced it can't be the drive/firmware/media because I have not made a coaster with the other files I burned afterwards...
LIGHTNING UK! Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 Well clearly it was one of them or you wouldn't have made 2 coasters! It was probably just a fault in the dye on those discs.

I just wanted to make sure, that's all. I know it's hard for you to tell on your end, but was worth asking in case you had seen it before and clearly identified the cause. One more coaster and I could have bought another new copy of the sucker! Thanks
