Pioneer BDR-205 can burn DL BD but not DVD+R

I found this very strange. This BD-RW supposes to support both DL BD and DVD+. I used it to backup a lot BD already. Recently need to burn some files to friends so try burning DL DVD+R for the first time but failed. The media is ok as it works with my another DVD-RW.

I got this error in latest v2.5.8.0 first and one youtube suggested that it can be fixed by downgraded to 2.5.7.0. After the error, the DVD+R was not burnt yet. Anyone can help? Thanks a lot!

Ignore what YouTube says, some people don't know as much as they think they do.

Your drive appears to be having an issue with the discs. Sure, they might not be outright faulty (as another of your drives can burn them), but for whatever reason, your pioneer doesn't like them.

You should try some Verbatim MKM-003-00 discs. If they also fail, it's looking more like a hardware issue.

You could try cleaning the drive with a cleaning disc or look at replacing it if you really need to burn DVD+r dl with whichever drive you have.

I can see from your drive's family tree info that it's connected to a port on a Marvell controller. Sometimes that can cause problems. You should try and connect it to a port on the intel sata controller instead.

I'd echo LUK's statement about trying Verbatim DataLife Plus MKM DVD+R DL.

Destination Media Type: DVD+R DL (Disc ID: RICOHJPN-D01-67)

Ricoh DVD+R DL is, well, just not very good.  I tried 5 of them a few years ago.  They all completed burns and Verifies, but 3 of them were unreadable a year later.

Verbatim DataLife Plus MKM DVD+R DL is really the only quality DVD+R DL out there.

It's not guaranteed to solve your problem, but it's where I'd look into first.

Thanks a lot for your advise. Just tried to change it to intel sata controller.

After changed to intel sata controller, I saw that the "Optimal L0 Data Zone Capacity: 2,073,376" chanaged. But the result is the same. So is it the media's quality issue?

Thanks a lot!

As I said, I'd avoid using those Ricoh DL media all together.  The only consistent quality DVD+R DL are Verbatim's MKM media.  Low quality media like Ricoh and CMC cause nearly half of the problems seen on this board.  It's not a miracle that changing to quality media resolves a good portion of people's problems.  It's not a guaranteed solution, of course, but it's what I generally look at in logs of failures.

When you get the Verbatim MKM's, look for the DataLife Plus series.  NOT the Life series.  DataLife Plus is MKM.  Life series is cheap ass CMC media.  DataLife Plus you will generally only find in online stores, like where I get mine from: Amazon.com.  Brick and mortar stores will generally only carry the Life series, which, as I said, are CMC junk.
